Chapter 33: Restless Anxiety
Cesimir quickly left the Black Thorn Security Company once again.
That injury seemed like a signal, and after that, he had to get busy—Mr. A, for some unknown reason, changed his policy and began hunting official extraordinary teams.
Once Mr. A stopped trying to avoid the official extraordinaries, the three-person official extraordinary teams were no match for him.
However, the official extraordinaries couldn't avoid going out—there were always extraordinary events that needed handling, and even if there weren't, other members of the Aurora Order would create extraordinary events.
The influx of low-level Aurora Order members effectively tied up the official extraordinaries. After all, the madmen that the Aurora Order could mass-produce as expendables were of significantly different value compared to the carefully selected official extraordinaries. Mr. A could disregard the lives of those madmen, but the three major churches couldn't ignore the lives of their low-level extraordinaries.
If Alice were a bit older and more experienced, she might have realized that Mr. A and the Aurora Order's actions were steering things in a very dangerous direction—insufficient police force.
When all the official extraordinaries were busy and mentally strained due to their crazy actions, the real danger would take advantage of the situation.
Unfortunately, the busy official extraordinaries had no energy to ponder all this, and the only idle Alice had no experience in this matter. She could only feel the increasingly obvious and hard-to-ignore anxiety as the unknown danger approached step by step.
Troubled by this anxiety and the boredom of being unable to go out, Alice anxiously welcomed the next Monday.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Fool! Good afternoon, Mr. Hanged Man! Good afternoon, Mr. Sun! Good afternoon, Miss Destiny!"
Audrey's usual cheerful and light-hearted voice came through, soothing some of Alice's anxiety. She forced a smile: "Good afternoon, Miss Justice."
As an "Audience," Audrey naturally couldn't ignore Alice's emotional distress: "Miss Destiny, you don't seem to be in a good mood. Is it because of that evil god's offspring?"
"No," Alice leaned back in her chair, calming herself before answering, "My spirituality might be trying to warn me about something, but I can't figure out what it is... It's a terrible experience, like someone shouting through a megaphone in your head, and you try hard to hear what they're saying, but you can't make out anything."
This vivid metaphor made Audrey immediately understand Alice's distress, and she sympathetically said, "I imagine that must be very uncomfortable."
Alice smiled weakly, then showed a "I don't want to talk now" attitude—clearing her mind and ignoring people had been her most common state this past week because she had no way to keep herself very busy.
Audrey considerately stopped asking questions and looked at Klein, who was sitting at the head of the table. After getting his approval, she said, "Honorable Mr. Fool, did your follower receive the 300 gold pounds compensation?"
Alice... Unfortunately, Alice didn't even have the energy to complain now. She just wanted time to pass quickly, preferably skipping to the end of the matter.
As one of the insiders, Klein, who had tried divining for Alice above the gray fog and helping her divine above the gray fog without results, was also helpless.
So, after repeatedly checking the money in his account, Klein answered nonchalantly in Mr. Fool's tone, "I haven't paid attention to this matter, but since my follower hasn't requested additional help, they should have received it."
"That's great!" Audrey was relieved, and her tone became more cheerful, "Mr. Hanged Man, there's progress on theQilangos matter."
Alger immediately sat up straight, no longer probing into Alice's situation—Alice hadn't even inquired about the extraordinary of the "Monster" pathway.
Alger asked in a voice that couldn't hide his joy, "Where is he?"
"Unfortunately, just as we discovered his whereabouts, he noticed our investigation and killed the relevant personnel." Audrey detailed the events and described the follow-up investigation plan.
Alger nodded slightly, indicating he would keep an eye on it, then turned to Klein: "Honorable Mr. Fool, if we find outQilangos' true purpose and the very important and magical item he's trying to obtain, please allow me to recite your name and inform you through a ritual."
"Granted." Mr. Fool nodded lightly, agreeing to Alger's request.
Alger quietly breathed a sigh of relief, lowered his head, and humbly responded, "Please allow me to praise your listening in advance."
Then, Alger looked at Alice: "Miss Destiny, the extraordinary of the 'Monster' pathway plans to stay in Pritz Harbor for a while, waiting for a 'fated encounter.'"
Being called upon, Alice had to pull her wandering thoughts back and listen to what Alger said. Then she heard Alger's deliberately emphasized tone.
"A fated encounter?" Alice repeated the phrase with a strange expression. It sounded like something out of a cheesy plot.
"Those were his exact words," Alger replied.
"..." Alice frowned but chose to continue asking, "So, hypothetically, if I were to find him, what should I do?"
"...He said that all encounters are destined." Alger repeated in a tone that was hard to understand.
"..." Alice pinched her brow in frustration, suddenly feeling she understood how Angelica felt when she saw her flipping a coin.
"Anyway, thank you for your help, Mr. Hanged Man. This can offset part of the debt." Alice took a deep breath. Although she couldn't get any clues from the so-called "fated encounter," at least she confirmed that the person was in Pritz Harbor—though it still wasn't much use to her.
Alger accepted this matter without hesitation, then said to Klein, "Mr. Fool, I am about to obtain a batch of Emperor Roselle's diaries. I believe I can present them to you at the next or the following gathering."
Klein nodded and responded with a slightly pleased tone, "Very well."
...But what should he use to pay the Hanged Man? Alice, who had refocused on the gathering, couldn't help but feel a bit puzzled by Klein's actions.
