Despite the glacial sword being able to freeze everything until now,, it failed to affect the poison in any way. 

This failure drove home the harsh reality that if even his true magic couldn't counter the poison, ordinary magic would be even less effective. The situation became even more dire as Zack realized he was facing an enemy that could neutralize his most potent abilities.
