A full moon hung high in the sky, illuminating the forest beneath. It was hard to see anything beneath the crown of trees however as the forest was covered in a fog that only got denser every second.
Although being forced into his mindscape was not a pleasant experience, at least it allowed him to gain the advantage of home ground.
As for Ramesses, he also was within the forest. Looking up at the moon that had reformed in the sky, he chided, "You think this will make any difference?!"
He swiped his arm wildly, clearing the area around him of fog, but Ethan remained hidden. He was within one of the trees, watching the pharaoh from a distance.
He looked astonishingly similar to his son, to be point Ethan began doubting whether the coffin they had gone through really had been of Amun, and not of Ramesses.
Ethan's aim here was to earn time, because in a direct confrontation, he knew that he was no match for the immortal pharaoh, home ground advantage or not. His best bet for the moment was to let Tsukuyomi expand as much as possible, and hope his parents had understood his message.
Unfortunately, Ramesses II had quite a few tricks in his bag, and after ten seconds of standing still, he suddenly turned to look directly at Ethan. Although there were a bunch of leaves and branches between them, Ethan could tell the ancient spirit knew exactly where he was.
Ethan had a sudden faint premonition, which he decided to follow without a thought as he jumped down from the tree, just in time to save himself from the large explosion. The upper half of the tree was completely ravaged by it, and it almost looked like the trunk had been munched out by dozens of beavers.
"There you are. I would have made some conversation, but disrespecting me shall be the last mistake of your life."
Ethan once again had a premonition, one of sudden deadly danger. One he could not dodge. Yet, he only grinned. Ramesses seemed annoyed by it as he swiped his hand at Ethan, causing his chest to burst apart.
Body parts flew in every direction, but there was no blood as they were not in physical bodies.
Looking down arrogantly at the world, Ramesses reached out with a hand, and the surroundings started blurring as energy gathered towards his palm. He was assimilating the mindscape to make it his own, and integrate himself into Ethan's body.
But while he was doing this, a ray of light was fired down from the sky, slamming into Ramesses instantly. The impact formed a large crater in the ground, and halted Ramesses' process. He remained spotless.
However, as he looked up, he was greeted by a chilling sight. The moon in the sky had disappeared, and a giant Ethan had appeared instead. He was so large that even as he looked up in the sky, Ramesses could only see the upper part of his body.
Another ray of light was fired from Ethan's glabella, and Ramesses remained impassive as he pointed a finger in the sky, shielding himself from the attack as he said, "You've only made yourself into a bigger target."
The beam attacked ended, and Ramesses made a grasping gesture towards the sky. Ethan was not left helpless this time though as he swung a fist down.
The scene looked apocalyptic as a giant punched down from the heavens, but before it could touch the ground it met an invisible force.
The two were in a stalemate for a moment, before Ethan's entire giant arm was violently ripped apart. Ramesses rose from the ground, clutching his hand in preparation for another attack, only to see another arm had already grown. He attacked once again, only for Ethan to laugh angrily from the sky, "I see what you did now! Oh, you will burn in the deepest layer of Hell for this!"
Ethan's anger was actually genuine, because he really did discover where Ramesses' power was coming from. They were invisible to the naked eye, but as his presence seeped everywhere, he felt them.
The ten of thousands of souls wailing with every move Ramesses made. Ethan did not know how the Pharaoh was using their power, but each of his attacks used their power.
One fact that was universally known in the magical world was that death held great power, and sacrificing oneself could result in some of the most powerful forms of magic in the world. It was even possible to use Ancient Magic for someone with no affinity to it.
Now, although that sacrifice was forced, each of the souls under Ramesses' control earned him great power as he sent a veritable pillar of them up towards the heavens.
But the sight only sparked Ethan's wrath even more as white flames lit up around his arm. This time, it was Ramesses' attack that was overpowered as the giant fist slammed into the ground with great power.
A great fissure was created in the ground, the attack causing a veritable earthquake that made Ethan grunt in pain. This was his mindscape after all, so any damage to the landscape resulted in damage to him.
It was way too early to call for victory as Ethan felt a strong power emerged from beneath his fist, which promptly exploded to reveal a nearly uninjured Ramesses. His spiritual body was glowing with a golden light as golden flames appeared around him, setting his surroundings on fire.
He looked up with pride, and said, "I am a god, forever immortal. I have long vanquished death, and you shall share the same fate! As my body!"
He brought up both of his hands, and a golden fireball rapidly formed above him. It expanded in size by the second as soon, before Ramesses fired it into the sky with a mad laugh.
Although it was still small in size in comparison to Ethan, being only a fraction of his head, Ethan's giant body burned even without contact, and the moment it slammed into his chest, his entire being burst into flames, before being quickly disintegrated.
Meanwhile, Ramesses was left panting as even for all his great power, even he had his limits.
"I see. You draw your power from the souls you enslaved, but you still need a funnel to use their power. Yourself."
Ramesses whipped his body around in true astonishment as he saw Ethan leaning against a tree, appearing without a scratch.
Calm quickly returned to Ramesses however as he looked up to the sky, where a moon had appeared once again, and sneered, "I see what is happening. I should have guessed your creature would get involved. I was never really attacking you, but illusions created by your pet."
A frown appeared on Ethan's face as he grunted, "Miyuki is not a pet."
"It does not matter, she will burn all the same."
Ramesses took a deep breath, and a golden shockwave was emitted from him, destroying everything within his surroundings, be it Ethan who was leaning against the tree, the forest around them, or even the moon in the sky.
All that was left was the fog, Ramesses' golden form, who floated in the fog, as well as a cave. Despite heaving harder than before, Ramesses looked at the cave with narrowed eyes. A voice came from within, "You can go, Miyuki. Thanks for the help. I got it from here."
Before Ramesses could attack the cave, which could only be the core of Ethan's mindscape, the forest around him started rebuilding itself at a breakneck speed, and a moon once again started forming in the sky.
