Bab 60: Building Up Defenses Before the Attack
After the introductions with Yuichi Nakamura and discussing all the details about job, the team-two was assigned a room in the mansion and all the staff, and the guards were informed to not interfere with the Konoha shinobi.
For the following days Yuichi decided to stay in the mansion and do not go out until the matter with the supposed attack is not resolved.
Yuta, Itachi and Hikari discussed their roles for the following days, Hikari will stay vigilant and not far away from Yuichi Nakamura to be able to intercept the coming attack, Itachi will analyze the mansion and the territory around it and set some traps in places that will be most likely used by the shinobi that would attack the mansion.
Yuta's role for the following days was obvious, he would set up a perimeter with fuinjutsu seals around the whole territory and mansion, which would serve for detecting the enemy and forming defensive barriers.
On the first day Yuta with his shadow clones set up a sensory barrier around the mansion's territory for detecting anyone whose chakra strength is greater than that of a normal person. If someone like that except Yuta's own team will cross the barrier it will immediately signal to Yuta about the intruder.
Itachi placed the traps on the most suited for infiltration places as well. With that the first day of the protection mission came to an end without any events. The guards and other staff in the mansion either ignored the shinobi team or tried to avoid them in fear after what happened earlier.
On the next day in the morning Itachi reminded everyone that it's starting from this day and for the next four days it's the time frame for the supposed incoming attack so everyone should be on guard.
Yuta returned to the fuinjutsu perimeter and remembering that they are dealing with shinobi from Iwa that are mostly good at the earth release, Yuta set the additional detection barrier to spot any intruders from underground. As Yuta creating seals manually while working on the defensive fuinjutsu perimeter, the work takes a lot of time, Yuta and his shadow clones going through the mansion and the territory around it and creating temporary seals directly forming them with his chakra and applying them to the surfaces.
These types of seals are most suitable for this kind of task, as chakra imprint in the form of a seal could last for a couple of days or longer if put more chakra into it. Also, with good chakra control forming seals this way is quicker than drawing it with ink on paper.
While Yuta was focused on creating defensive barriers after he set up the detection perimeter, the staff at the mansion are looking at him as if he gone crazy or something, as for everyone else it looks like Yuta was wandering aimlessly and stayed in places for minutes while touching ground or walls.
'This whole mission looks fishy.' Yuta thought while working, 'Konoha somehow knows the precise point in time when Yuichi Nakamura will be attacked. Konoha informed Yuichi about the incoming attack and sent the team with B-rank mission to protect him with the order to stay in the open. This looks like the whole thing is a trap to target the Iwa shinobi, where the Yuichi and our team is just a bait and as we speculated with Itachi before, there should be an ANBU squad hiding around, waiting to catch the fish…
But this whole situation is strange, I had a feeling that I miss something important…
B-rank mission, it's only one level above C-rank, that usually only includes stuff like fighting bandits or big wild animals. B-rank can be considered as the first actually important rank that usually involves the fight among the shinobi up to Chunin level, when Jonin level shinobi involved it usually gets an A-rank. And only the missions of very high importance that involve Jonin level shinobi get S-rank.
That means that the current B-rank mission shouldn't involve Jonin level shinobi, but if that is true, then there is no need for a supposed ANBU squad in the dark, right? Something is not making sense here…
Could this mission involve Danzo somehow? This is possible but chances are low, and he wouldn't target my team here, as we picked this mission randomly, but if the supposed ANBU squad in the dark is actually from the Root subdivision, then this mission can turn even more dangerous than I initially thought…'
This day went uneventfully too, and Yuta was able to set barriers around the mansion, ready to be activated at any moment. With Yuta's paranoia going higher and higher as time passes, he decided to turn this mansion into the impenetrable fuinjutsu fortress over time and won't stop working on it until the attack happens or until the time for the mission is over.
Yuta created a shadow clone to work overnight while he will sleep, the clone will continue to work on defenses and will stay vigilant to act instantly if the attack happens during the night.
The night went peacefully and now it's only three days left for the team-two protection mission.
As Yuta, Itachi and Hikari wake up, they were served some food to their room, but as usual, Yuta just stored everything in the storage seal scroll, as they don't eat anything during the missions if they can't be sure the food isn't poisoned.
As they eat the ration bars instead, Hikari said annoyed, "I hope the attack happens soon, it's getting boring."
"I would prefer to have more time to set up good defenses." Yuta said worriedly.
"Don't worry, our goal is just to protect Yuichi from initial attack, as there will be other shinobi to take care of the Iwagakure attackers." Itachi said assuredly.
"I hope you are right about this, it's just that I have some bad feeling about this mission, that's all." Yuta said deep in thought.
"Ow, is our great fuinjutsu genius scared all of a sudden? Don't worry, big sis Hikari will protect you if something happens!" Hikari said with a smirk.
"Thanks, will be counting on you." Yuta said with a deadpan face.
'Damn, she is still angry that I didn't give her my stealth seal. She annoyed Itachi asking for a shadow clone jutsu for almost half a year straight back in the days, that the one of the reasons that I didn't want to reveal my skills to her, she is very obsessed with learning a good stuff.'
Yuta went outside, dispelled his shadow clone that was working overnight and reviewed his memories about what amount of work was already done. After that he created two new shadow clones that went invisible and continued the work on the fuinjutsu defenses with clones.
The more Yuta worked on the defensive measures, the more he had a new ideas of what to improve and add to it, at this point get into the same state of mind that he had during the time in the time-loop when he researched and practiced fuinjutsu, there nothing exists for him anymore, only the task at hand and the endless ideas what to implement or improve with constant lack of time to complete everything…
The second day of the four days on which the attack was expected went peacefully, the same as the night.
On the third day in the evening Itachi was worried about Yuta's state of mind and he reminded him about their mission and to not to get too carried away with his fuinjutsu. Yuta snapped out of it and remembering that it's not a time-loop but an actual mission, he reviewed what he already implemented here, and that was quite a lot of seals placed over the mansion and the territory around.
'Damned, I get carried away here, I shouldn't use all of these seals during the attack if there is no good reason too, as it will reveal too much about my actual fuinjutsu skills. But I don't think all these efforts are wasted either, it was good practice, or if I would ever want to protect my own house, I already have some experience to do so.
It's only this night and the next day left for the supposed attack, if it happens at all, it's a high chance that it will happen during this night I think.'
But what Yuta didn't know that Koichi was observing his work with interest from the distance, as Koichi also a fuinjutsu expert he found Yuta's work intriguing, to be able to form so many seals and imprint them all over the place with his chakra control alone, that was a great performance in his opinion, Koichi decided to report Yuta's skyrocketed growth in fuinjutsu to Hiruzen right away after this mission was over.
"Just to think that Yuta would achieve such high level of fuinjutsu performance in less than a year after his graduation…" Koichi mumbled to himself, "Maybe he had some of the Uzumaki blood in him? But that shouldn't be possible, I read his file and Lord Third already performed a thorough check on his background after Yuta performed so well during the academy… Such a great talent in fuinjutsu, and he already surpassed my own fuinjutsu skills…"

[AN: Yuta becoming fuinjutsu mad scientist and I can't say I don't like it… Will Hiruzen try to lock him down inside the village? Who knows, after all, Yuta is not there yet to be considered a fuinjutsu master of great value.
