The whole day had been a flurry of controlled chaos at the villa. Gramps was barking orders left and right at the poor staff, ensuring every last detail for tonight's grand banquet was absolute perfection. He finally excused himself for a pre-party nap after working himself into an irritable lather. 

As I surveyed the lavishly decorated ballroom from my bedroom window, I had to admit the hall looked stunning - like something ripped straight from the pages of a magazine spread on Beijing elite opulence. The whole place reeked of obscene wealth.

The night was just getting started when Wu Ling arrived early, whisking me back to my luxurious quarters. As the makeup artist fussed over me, meticulously applying cosmetic artistry, Wu Ling appraised the situation with an amused smirk.

"I think it's safe to say, welcome to the boring, snobbish circle of Beijing high society," she quipped.
