Bab 26: Chapter 26 The True Purpose

The fierce sun rose, illuminating the lush wilderness.

By the riverside at the north end of the village, in the fields that were about to be cultivated for spring, some scattered weeds were growing faintly visible.

More and more people gathered at the northern entrance of the village.

The buzz of the crowd merged into a din.

A considerable part was attracted by the labor recruitment.

Another part was just spectating; they had finished dealing with their fishing gear but did not believe in this so-called recruitment.

In their eyes, most nobles knew only how to exploit them and to collect more taxes from their heads.

Even so, they were happy to come and watch the excitement.

Spring plowing had not yet begun, and they had nothing else to do anyway.

The villagers of Bay Village were not wealthy, having just endured a winter, most of their faces wore a pallid hue.
