Bab 7: Chapter 7

"So y'all met that same same day?" Asked Callum talking to Falco through the phone. He was walking around the Roux building headed for the backyard, slowly.

"Yeah...why?" Asked Falco.

"Nothing man, I'm just asking. Thought y'all seemed a lil too close for acquaintances," said Callum. "So like how'd y'all meet?"

"What's with the questions bro?" Asked Falco sounding slightly agitated.

"Relax man, I'm just trynna learn more about our new friend," said Callum.

"Our?" Asked Falco.

"Damn, you really gate keeping her?" Asked Callum smiling.

"Maybe...she overheard me talk about code with some of our classmates and came over, introduced herself and we started talking. That's when she mentioned her assembly project. Personally I was impressed, I thought you'd be impressed too," said Falco.

"I was, I'm just checking you know, it's always been just us for the most part,"

"Awww, you jealous? I'm not replacing you bro, don't worry, " said Falco.

"Psh, whatever," said Callum reaching the back where Viona waited for him, "Anyway bro, I'll talk to you later." He said ending the call and putting his phone in his pocket.

"Drink," she said to him stretching out her right hand, in it was a blood vial. His three day subscription was over and thus he needed to renew it as per their contract.

He took it and chugged it down, as she watched him swallow, watching the bulge slowly go down his throat, hearing the gulp at the back of it. She took a deep breathe raising her chin up a little and released it. It was quite the scene. Some of the blood escaped through the corner of his mouth, Callum gladly used his thumb to wipe it back to his lips before licking it off the finger. She stared, entranced by the simplicity yet arousing nature of his gestures.

"Shall we begin?" She asked him facing to the side as if hiding the momental infatuation he'd caused upon her.

"Sure," he said.

"Alright, just like last time, we focus on control. You have an easy time manifesting your powers but manipulating them is where the real task is. Begin," she said.

Callum stretched out his right arm, his focus solely on it, he then squinted his eyes a little and slowly blood began to engulf his right forearm. Just like before, it had no shape or form and behaved like the top surface of an ocean with mini tides and waves.

"Now, project it into an extended pillar then harden it," she said to him.

"Okay," he said staring at his forearm. Slowly, he began extending the blood, it projected itself like a growing root in her direction. About thirty inches up front he lost his grip on it and the blood poured to the ground.

Before he could say or do anything she commanded, "Again. "

He aimed his arm at the pool on the ground and the blood returned to him like a dog to its owner, then went on oscillating around his forearms. Once again he stretched out his arm and projected the blood forward, about thirty inches in the blood poured again. Viona was feeling impatient, why was this happening, he had a relatively "easier" time when manifesting them, why is it that this was proving to be do hard.

"Do it again," she said in a more commanding slightly aggressive voice. She seemed laid back though, hardly expressing any emotion, this however wasn't necessarily a good sign. Callum knew her, he could tell tension was rising.

Still he tried, and once again he failed. She let out a breathe as she clenched her teeth. It was annoying, she didn't care that he was just getting used to this, he was supposed to be good, a prodigy regardless of the fact that his life had recently been turned upside down.

"Why won't you do it?" She asked him aggressively.

"I'm trying," said Callum to her.

"Stop trying and do it! Otherwise you're useless to me!" She yelled.

"Yoh chill, I thought we went through this," he said to her.

"Went through what?" She asked wondering what he was talking about.

"We agreed you'd be more respectful," he said in a low tone.

"That's not what you're looking for Callum, you want me to be nicer, they were you're words. I don't get nice and as for respect you earn it. This isn't some elementary magic school, you will learn how to use your powers and you will use them to serve me. You're not my partner Callum, you're my blood servant...out there, they won't care that you don't know how to use you're powers, they'll rip you to shreds and you'll be forgotten and life will go on. I don't think you understand, I chose to be more humane with you, so as to improve your productivity , not to be your friend," she said to him begrudgingly.

It was the truth however, this world was cruel, it needed one who dedicated their all to have the finest understanding of what they are and what they can do, in the end that's all that mattered especially for a blood servant. If not then he becomes a parasite, nothing useful to her and something better of dead than alive.

As this known reality dawned on Callum, Viona got a phone call."What is it?" She asked holding it by her ear.

"Where?" She seemed concerned as whoever was speaking seemed to have something she was searching for.

"Fall back, I'll be there in a minute," she said before ending the phone call. She looked at Callum and said, "We're leaving."

She proceeded to grab him like the weightless coat he was to her and dash out of the compound. She would fly over the city reaching her destination in an instant, at least from a human's perspective.

On reaching there, they found four characters waiting for them. A lady and four gents in a hurd. They immediately noticed Callum and Viona. The lady seemed especially pleased, almost as if she wanted them there. Viona's attention was entrapped by the three men. The lady was Caucasian, nothing special about her looks. She had blue jeans and a jacket made of the same material, under it was a white t-shirt with giant, red lips drawn on it.

The surrounding area was a parking lot. They were enclosed with only one free side behind these four strangers and acquaintances. The pavement was relatively well maintained with only a few cracks on the ground. The lot was empty though. Free space for the soon to be arena.

"You must be Viona Roux," she said, "Nice to meet you."

"You are?" Asked Viona wondering who she was.

"Dinah," she said.

"Alright Dinah, are you and your mates here ready to die?" Asked Viona.

"Urgh! So violent, calm down. I'm just here to talk. You didn't even introduce me to your little boyfriend," she said looking at Callum. He who at that point could feel the weight of the intent of death that surrounded him. He could tell that everyone around him had outclassed him and could not so much as talk. It was strange, as if their presence alone emitted this pressure that held him in place pinning him to that exact point. Their glares at him like chains locking onto him as his breathing slowed down, it matched what he felt the day Viona lured him into that alley but carried in the sense that he knew something bad would happen, he just didn't know what it was exactly. It wasn't anything explainable, but these things seemed diabolical, they weren't like the daft xulls he'd encountered days back. It was their sentience that made it all so terrifying, like they were smart and would think before engaging. Shivers sent down his spine as the hairs all over his skin erected, he was a mouse thrown into a cage full of snake.

All of a sudden, he felt warmth from behind him. It calmed him and drained some of the fear that had engulfed his heart, the dense air became lighter and allowed him to breathe better. "Stand back, I'll handle this," she said to Callum.

Slowly Viona came closer to him hovering as usual. Her eyes were fixated on these four. "I have no interest in talking to you," she said to them.

"You were right, she seems quite impulsive," said Dinah smiling. She was referring to the three gents that stood by her.

"It's cause of the other night, we beat, and she seems to be holding a grudge," Says one of the men stepping forward.

Viona clenched her fist on hearing those words. This was because, these three were the reason she lured Callum into that alley, they'd ambushed her prior and hurt her. She thus needed blood and Callum happened to be the only source around.

"Ohh, did I poke an unhealed wound," said the gent taunting her.

"Perhaps, though, I'm not angry at you. I feel rage towards myself for letting weak, lowlife, sewer bats like you even land a finger on me, a transgression I shan't commit again," she stated. This insult reversed the roles as she was now the instigator and these three men were now the defendants.

The first one charged at her throwing a fist, effortlessly however she caught it. Callum, standing a about five feet behind her was pushed back by the aftershock that flew to him life aerial seismic waves. He had seen the attack due to his improved perception, regardless the blow from his perspective was equivalent to a man watching a jet dashing at mac two right in front of them. The attack in itself was more than impressive, but her catching it like a wicket keeper? No whiplash, no recoil, she was unfazed. She stood at a pedestal reserved for gods in his eyes.

Before he could do anything she twisted his arm speeding behind him while still holding it. She caught his throat digging her claws into it and ripping it off. Blood had barely jet out when she kicked the back of his right knee and pressed on his left shoulder with her bloody hand. He knelt down and in a instant her left hand ignited into green flames. The fire burnt the creature quick. He let out squeals and shrieks, inhuman like and demonic as he turned to crisp. She turned to the her left flashing her death stare at Dinah and one of the two remaining gents. Her eyes a devious glowed green.

From above, she sensed danger and flew backwards, one of the two men dropped down crushing the spot she initially hovered over, leaving the pavement in cracks. As he rose back up however she didn't let him recuperate, she dashed to him and jabbed her right hand into his chest ripping his heart out on the other side behind him. She then retracted her arm out of him and with a devastating round house kick ripped his head right off and sent it flying towards Callum. The boy dodged it in time and turned back to it. It was half crushed with its right half having a hold that matches the shape of her shoes while the other half expressed pure anguish.

The last gent dashed at her with both his arms flared out at her, she still affortlessly caught both in time. She then pulled him down abruptly ripping both his arms off while sending his face down. A rising knee kick from her then immediately sent his head back up, she then kicked his right shin and with her hands forced him to genuflect. She then rose higher above him with her eyes glowing even brighter and taking a reptilian design, slit like those of a lizard. From her mouth came a green flame that blasted through the man consuming his flesh as soon as it touched him. His black skeleton was quickly eroded I to a thin layer of charred calcium. "She must really like seeing men kneel," thought Callum.

Viona let his remains go and his body dropped, his skull shattering into ash and burnt bits of bone. She then turned to the lady.

"The way she killed them, it was calculated. She did it slow to inflict as much pain as she could on each one while also leaving an opening for the rest to attack. She was luring us in and they fell for it. Whole time her senses were vigilant and attacking would've ended with instant death," thought Dinah. With that display, it was safe to assume for Dinah that Viona was in her own league. Dinah was no new born vampire but regardless, this was a Roux before her, one of the eight most feared family names in the supernatural world. It would be foolish for her to even attempt attacking her. As for Callum well, canon fodder would be a kind description for him.

Viona on the other hand didn't care, if Dinah wasn't going to attack then she would gladly do it. She blasted a pillar of green fire at Dinah. Dinah was...relatively prepared. Her arms turned into feathered wings and with a singular flap a gust of wind went clashing with Viona's pillar of green flame. It extinguished a bit of the flame but eventually was overpowered as the flame proceeded towards her. She quickly flew upwards into the air dodging the flame as it proceeded on below her.

"I'll let you cool off, you'll want to hear me out," she said as she turned and flapped her wings flying away into the night sky. Viona would've wanted to follow her but Callum was dead weight, who knows if anymore of them would be hidden in the vicinity, waiting for such an opportunity to pounce on him as soon as she left his side. He had proven to be quite useless in that battle but taking him there was not useless. He had truly seen the difference in power regardless of the fact that he had his own.
