The reality hit him like a ton of bricks, and he felt like he was going to collapse when he heard growls coming from the darkness below.

He knew he should look, but curiosity got the best of him, so he took a hesitant glance downward. At that moment, he wished he hadn't.

His eyes widened as he saw the zombies tearing into the woman's lifeless body, ripping her to shreds. One ripped off her hand and started to chew on it, the sound of bones crunching and flesh tearing making his stomach churn. He had to fight the urge to vomit.
