Bab 76: Chapter 76: Wizard City Part 2

The interior of the small home exuded simplicity, yet it enveloped me in a profound sense of peace, easing the tension in my shoulders and invoking a comforting familiarity reminiscent of the warmth of my family from a previous life. However, my tranquility was short-lived as the serene ambiance was disrupted by the entrance of a dark-skinned elderly man, bearing a teapot in one hand and three cups in the other.

"Thank you for bringing our guest here," the elderly man greeted graciously, his voice resonating with a smoothness that bespoke years of experience. With a deliberate motion, he laid down the teapot and cups upon the table. "How about you sit with us and have some tea?"

His invitation carried a warmth that invited camaraderie, and I found myself drawn to the notion of sharing this peaceful moment with him and McGongall. Sadly it was not to be as I soon remembered my status as a undead status.

"Sorry, Sir, but I have other things to attend to, so perhaps another time," While I was inwardly grappling with the problem of my undead nature as a potential issue. Before I could broach the subject, McGongall swiftly interjected, declining the old man's invitation and promptly exiting through the door, leaving me alone with him.

The old man gestured for me to take a seat, which I obliged, feeling a mixture of apprehension and curiosity as I prepared to address my predicament.

"Here have a cup" The old man said as he handed me of cup of steaming hot tea something Iwould have much appreciated if only I could drink it.

*Sir, as you can see, I'm undead and can't drink or eat anything,* I confessed, my words materializing smoothly upon the table. The old man chuckled lightly at the sight before his next words caught me off guard.

"Why can't you?" The question was so simple. I knew that but I cant help feel there was more to the question I was being asked but without keeping the old man waiting I answered with the simplest answer possible.

*Because I'm dead* At those words, the old man began to laugh and chuckle, leaving me perplexed. However, before I could stew in my confusion, he abruptly halted his laughter and spoke with clear bemusement.

"Let me ask you, how does magic work? Is it utilized through complicated magic formulas, simple manipulation of mana, or some cool, glowy artifact you found in some ruins?" The old man's question left me feeling a tad confused. Though I often employed magic formulas to cast my spells, there were occasions when a mere wave of my hand was sufficient to activate them. But before I could dwell too long on my uncertainty, the grand wizard answered his own query.

"Belief, of course! How are you supposed to cast a spell if you don't believe you can? How are you supposed to harness the miracle of magic if you can't trust that such miracles are possible? How are you supposed to grow if you believe you can't grow any more or improve?" His voice took on a fervent tone as he spoke faster, his passion evident.

"You are a master of ice, a manipulator of mana, but have you ever dared to push magic beyond the confines you've set for it? Have you ever sought to stretch its boundaries, to make it aid you in flight, in healing wounds, or even in bending something beyond its perceived limits?" The old man's demeanor shifted, leaving me slightly stunned by this unexpected turn in our conversation. Nonetheless, I continued to listen, feeling something inside me begin to shift as the old man once again pushed the cup before me, signaling for me to drink with three final words: "Believe and drink."

I didn't argue this time; instead, I attempted to do as the old man said. Though believing was challenging, as I had never witnessed such a feat nor had any tangible proof of its possibility, I chose to trust the old man, despite our brief acquaintance of at most five minutes.

And to my astonishment, it worked! The bitter taste of the tea slid into my skeletal jaw, only to vanish into nothingness as it attempted to descend further into my body. Each sip dissolved into the void within me, leaving me both amazed and bewildered by the realization that I had defied the constraints of my undead nature, if only for a fleeting moment.

"More tea?" The old man's simple question hung in the air, and without hesitation, I finished the cup in a few swift gulps. There was much to discuss.
