Bab 30: A Hybrid

Wang's Pov.

Attached to the package is a note that reads as follows:

"Liu, thanks for the toiletries, but I no longer have any use for them. I find myself in a situation where I am unsure of my destination, but I am confident that demons will not be able to follow me any longer. Additionally, thank you for sending me food, but I want to make it clear that I am not in need of charity. It's disheartening that your brother refuses to acknowledge my presence."

I felt so alone and isolated when he referred to me as a halfling. I tried to explain myself, but he would not listen to me. He made me feel like I didn't belong and that no matter how hard I tried, he would never accept me.

I came to the conclusion that you and your brother are playing game with me, but it's not fair to play on people's emotions, especially those of a human. Your brother's words were hurtful, cruel, and insensitive, and I felt like I couldn't be accepted for who I am.

"I pray we never see each other again. I am a person, not a pawn in your game. Goodbye."

We all turned to Liu, seeking answers and hoping for a resolution to the perplexing situation at hand. His head shook with disbelief.

"I didn't send this, nor did I send food," he exclaimed. His voice was filled with confusion and concern as he tugged at his hair, a physical manifestation of stress and frustration.

"I know; I trust you with my life, brother," I growled, placing a reassuring hand on Liu's shoulder. "We will figure this out together." My frustration mounted. It seemed like no matter how many questions we asked, we were still no closer to finding out who was behind this.

Let me understand something. Someone sent Zhan a dark magic product with Liu's name to disguise his looks, so Wang wouldn't recognize him. Furthermore, they sent food to him regularly to ensure he was nourished, while Wang rejected him. Meng said, rolling her eyes.

It seems like the person behind this whole misunderstanding is in love with Wang or Zhan. And is willing to do whatever it takes to separate them. Jealousy can make people do crazy things, and this is a perfect example of that. She hissed.

Jia. I growled menacingly, "If I find out she is behind this, I will kill her!"

"Leave everything for now." We will get to the bottom of this and find out who is responsible. Don't do anything rash, Wang. We have to be smart about this and figure out who is behind this misunderstanding."

Meng conjured her table spell with a map, pulled out Zhan's hairbrush, and placed it on the map. She began to chant and wave her pendulum in the air. She moved it around the table, and it seemed to lead her somewhere. Suddenly, the pendulum rotated faster and faster, and a bright light appeared from the hairbrush. The light quickly spread and engulfed the entire map. In an instant, everything turned to ashes, including Zhan's toothbrush. It was a surreal sight to behold, and everyone in the room was shocked.

"Zhan is not human, and he is cloaked in a very powerful spell," Meng said in awe. "The spell's power could turn even the most mundane items into ashes."

"He must be a hybrid," Jackson said, shocking us all. "No human could have such powerful magic, and this spell proves that."

What do you mean? Liu said.

Explain. Meng chimed in.

Jackson explained how Zhan's eyes turned gold on the day I rejected him and the day he landed that powerful punch. Jackson further explained that he could not hear Zhan's thoughts and compel him.

"That's not possible," Liu laughed. "The only people we can't compel are liches, and they're extinct!"

"Well, there's one," Meng said, and we all looked at her like she had grown horns on her head. "

"Urza!" we all said in unison. "But Urza is just a myth," Liu said. "He doesn't actually exist."

"My grandma said Urza exists, though no one knows what he looks like," Meng responded. "She said he has power that no other creature can match and that he can never be compelled."

We all stared at each other in stunned silence. We all knew what this meant. If Urza was real, he was Zhan's father.

What is Zhan's natural eye color? Meng asked.

"Green," Jackson said, looking at me. "

"Green eyes, gold eyes, and can't be compelled, though concealed," Meng said, opening her witchy memoir. "It's in here somewhere," she said, flipping through the pages. "Ah, here it is."

Meng read aloud, "Witches, Nymphs, and Water Spirits are born with green eyes, while Griffins, Lycans, and Kitsune have gold or yellow eyes." Liches, witches, supernatural hunters, and werewolves can't be compelled.

Liches, thoughts, and memories cannot be heard by anyone else.

Let's go to his house and talk to his uncle. Meng suggested.

I was so numb to everything and everyone around me. My heart was broken beyond repair, and I started to feel my heart racing in my chest. I couldn't bring myself to go to his house and talk to his uncle, as Meng suggested. I felt so overwhelmed and angry that I wanted to lash out and hurt someone, and I was afraid that if I went to his house and talked to his uncle, I might do something I would regret, like killing him out of annoyance, and Zhan might never forgive me.

The thought of never hearing his voice again or looking into his emerald-green eyes seemed to magnify my heartbeat. The sound reverberated within me, drowning out the surrounding noises. The world around me blurred, my focus solely fixed on the erratic beats echoing in my ears. I desperately longed for a reprieve, a moment of calm amidst the storm within me. The thought of losing Zhan due to my impulsiveness added to my already racing heart, making me feel dizzy and light-headed.

The last thing I remember before everything turned blank was Liu rushing to me, his face filled with concern. He knelt down in front of me and grabbed my shoulders, shaking me gently as he called out my name. I could barely hear his words amidst the chaos in my head. I felt my heart rate slow down, and the world gradually focused. I managed to nod my head and take a few deep breaths before succumbing to the darkness.
