A few days later, one morning, Hedwig brought Hagrid's note to Harry and the others.
"It's about to hatch!"
There were only these four words on the note.
While others may not understand the meaning of these words, Harry and his friends knew it very well. This meant that the Norwegian Ridgeback dragon egg was about to hatch!
After learning the news, Ron immediately planned to skip class to find Hagrid. He thought he might not get another chance to see a dragon hatching in his life. Compared to that, what's the importance of class?
Hermione firmly opposed this idea.
But under Ron's unreasonable insistence, Hermione had to give in and decided to go to Hagrid's hut with everyone during the morning break to witness the birth of the dragon.
When their first class of the morning, Herbology, ended, the bell in Hogwarts Castle rang, and Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Irina threw down their trowels and ran straight to Hagrid's hut.
What surprised Hermione was that Irina, who usually preferred not to exert herself, was more active than anyone else this time.
"It seems that Irina really likes small animals!" Hermione thought.
However, after spending time with Irina, she seemed to have been influenced by her, and she even forgot that a dragon was not a small animal at all.
At this time, Hagrid greeted them, looking rosy and very excited.
"It's comin' out soon," Hagrid said excitedly, welcoming Irina and the others into the hut.
As soon as Irina walked into the house, she found that the dragon egg was placed on a square iron sheet, and the iron sheet was spewing flames continuously.
"Oh, this was given to me by one of yer seniors. It can perfectly simulate the environment fer the hatchin' of a dragon!" Hagrid introduced happily after noticing Irina's gaze.
Irina hesitated and said, "Hagrid, is the senior you mentioned named Lynn?"
Hagrid was a little surprised, "Yes, do yeh know him?"
Irina pondered. It was indeed Lynn, but how did he know about the dragon? Was he a Seer, or was he the same as herself...
Just when Irina doubted Lynn's identity, the movement of the dragon egg attracted her attention.
The dragon egg was lying on the iron sheet, and a deep crack suddenly appeared on it. Something inside was constantly moving, and a very interesting "clicking" sound was heard.
As if sensing that the dragon was about to hatch, the flame on the iron sheet dissipated on its own.
At this time, everyone moved their chairs closer to the table. They held their breath and watched closely.
Suddenly, with a sharp scraping sound, the dragon egg cracked open.
A little Norwegian Ridgeback dragon was seen swaying and flapping on the iron sheet. It was not beautiful, in fact. It looked like a crumpled black umbrella. Its spiny wings were particularly large compared to its thin black body. It also had a long, big snout with white nostrils, horns on its head, and bulging orange eyes.
The little dragon sneezed, and a few sparks came out of its nostrils.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Hagrid muttered.
He reached out a hand and touched the little dragon's head, but the little dragon turned its head and bit his finger, revealing its sharp, long teeth.
Hagrid didn't feel any pain at all, but said excitedly, "Bless him, look, he knows his mummy!"
Harry and Ron rolled their eyes. Look at this little dragon; it looks fierce, as if it wants to swallow Hagrid whole. Do you think it really thinks you're its mother?
Just when Harry and Ron didn't dare to approach the little dragon because of its danger, Irina came forward with joy.
"So cute! Little dragon, give me a hug!"
Two little hearts seemed to appear in Irina's eyes. She grabbed the little dragon and put it in her arms, gently stroking it.
"Irina, be careful..." Seeing this, Hagrid was shocked and quickly stretched out his hand to stop Irina.
Although Hagrid always called some dangerous magical creatures "cute," he also knew that the attacks of these magical creatures were potentially fatal to young wizards, and the same was true for the fangs of the dragon.
Maybe it was no big deal for this little dragon to bite Hagrid, but with Irina's delicate body, if she were bitten, she would probably have to stay in the hospital wing. If the bite was in the wrong place, she might even lose her life!
Just when Hagrid was extremely worried, the performance of the little dragon stunned him.
The little dragon lay comfortably in Irina's arms, showing an expression of enjoyment. After seeing Hagrid, it deliberately rubbed Irina's chest with its head and then spat a small ball of flame at Hagrid.
Not only Hagrid but even Harry, Ron, and Hermione were stunned.
Good grief, this is a double-standard little dragon!
"Why..." Hagrid wanted to cry but had no tears. Irina could touch it at will, and it enjoyed it, but he just touched it, and it bit him viciously.
Could the difference be any less?
Hermione stood next to Irina and raised her head, "Hehe, just because my Irina is beautiful!"
The little dragon seemed to like Irina and Hermione very much. They still kissed, hugged, and lifted him up, but when Harry and Ron came over, the little dragon breathed on them. If Harry and Ron got closer, the little dragon would probably bite them!
Stroking the little dragon, Irina looked at Hagrid and asked, "By the way, Hagrid, did that senior Rowle give you this alchemical product?"
Hagrid nodded first, then shook his head, "It's not fer free; he needs a vial of blood from this little dragon, but in addition, he also gave me a place fer the little dragon to live."
Hagrid said and took out a suitcase.
Hermione put her head into the suitcase, and after seeing the space inside, she couldn't help but exclaim, "Is this an Undetectable Extension Charm? But it's illegal to use the Undetectable Extension Charm privately, right?!"
Hagrid explained, "Rowle said this is alchemy, not an Undetectable Extension Charm."
Hermione nodded and said, "But even if there is such a space, I'm afraid the little dragon can't live for too long. When the little dragon grows up, this space will not be able to accommodate it!"
Just as Hermione was discussing the life of the little dragon, Hagrid's face suddenly changed.
Hagrid's face turned pale, and he jumped up and ran to the window.
"What's going on?" Harry asked in confusion.
Hagrid was a little out of breath, "Someone just peeked through the gap in the curtains. It was a boy. He was runnin' to the school!"
Hearing this, the four of them immediately ran to the door and looked out. They saw Malfoy running fast with his back to them, with a malicious smile on his face.
