"They'd go that far? What about the alliance?"

They both nodded. Li Han spoke for them both. "From my impression of them, especially if you give the Library good results in the other events, that is something they would do, if they got the chance. As far as the alliance goes, they probably wouldn't kill you, their respect for it goes that far…but even that much is off if you fought back against them."

"Wait. Disciples die in the Games?" Shokoya asked, wide-eyed.

"Very often, yes," said Qun Xing, "in the final event. The final event is…quite unique, and very dangerous. It's not likely you'd be able to outdo them in previous events anyway, in which case they'd most likely leave you alone."

"All about knowing your place, huh…" The words were under my breath, and they came out before I could stop them.
