It was a case of life imitating art: people suffering in the movie, people suffering outside the movie, super-sized suffering, so to speak.

Volcanic eruptions, tsunamis spreading, typhoons passing, watching the opening scenes, although Yang Yiwu thought the special effects were indeed impressive, wasn't the plot a bit too tragic?

During his university days, Yang Yiwu had seen disaster-themed movies depicting sinking ships, the Statue of Liberty frozen, Yellowstone Park's volcano erupting, but never all at once.

He was a bit worried that these images might affect the students' mental health.

Yet, turning his head, Yang Yiwu found the children with their eyes wide, engrossed in the movie, even more focused than when in class.
