Bab 21: CHARLOTTE
"Hi dad" I said into the phone sitting on my bed. It's been a while since I'd talked to dad.
"Charlotte" his voice was dry. Well, his new wife had given birth to a baby a year ago. I had a little brother I would very much liked to visit. Even though dad and his wife weren't fans of me.
I ignored my sentimental thought and tried focusing on the bright side. I reached for my glasses and yeah again —they weren't there.
I'd gotten the lenses just as Anna wished and so far, it was kind of cooler than my glasses. My vision was clear and I loved my eyes. Though, one wouldn't know I'd gotten lenses, it was exactly the color of my eyes.
"Uh, today is Friday. Can I come over for weekend?" I asked. Please say yes. I was tired of the drama, this week had brought and I just needed an escape.
Maybe changing environment for only a few days would help. I stood up pacing towards my window. My eyes fell on the apartment that had knee belonged to my neighbors. The 'For Lease' sign was no longer there.
Has it been bought? Oh my, new neighbor.
"I'm sorry darling, it's um, kind of tough here. Linda would be traveling with Jayden and I'd be busy. Let's do this some other time okay?" He announced and I tried ignoring the disappointment I felt.
Dad was never available.
"Uh, okay. Love you" I muttered hoping he would respond just like he used to.
"Stay safe" Was his reply before the phone clicked off. I fell back on my bed, a sigh escaping me.
I was staying in today, well, it was kind of advised. I had not seen Reggie after the kids because I didn't want to see him.
I wanted to gather my thoughts and try getting something meaningful out of my life. I'd looked up the schools I'd applied for scholarships into college. It was still in review.
I would become woman I want to be in a few months. Highschool would be technically over in six months, I wanted everything set for me.
Leaving this life behind was a dream I'd prayed would come true. My phone chimed.
It was a message. I opened it, a smile forming on my face seeing the text.
"Wish I could call in with you, I hate going to school without you it sucks. Keep some cheesecake for me, ily"
I typed a response quite fast.
"It sucks at this end too, and yes, I'm keeping some cheesecake for you. Xoxo" I hit the send button.
It show delivered and then seen, and three dots appeared on the screen. She was typing. It disappeared and reappeared and then disappeared.
It was unlike Anna. I watched the screen, it still showed she was online but she wasn't typing a reply.
After waiting for a few seconds, I dropped the phone on the bed staring at the ceiling trying to remember the better days of my life.
My phone chimed with a message and kept on chiming. Ah, Anna.
I opened it with a smile on my face but it fell off on seeing the message.
"Ohmigod, Reggie got into a fight!!!"
"With Daniel?"
"Ohmigod!"
"*a picture*"
"*a picture*"
"* a video*"
"Charlie, this doesn't look good"
What?!
I zoomed in on the pictures she sent and yeah, he was fighting. He had his arm around Daniel's neck, clearly choking the boy.
In the other picture, Daniel had pinned him down.
My hand went around my mouth as I watched the video. As usual, the students were cheering and filming the action. Reggie beat Daniel pretty bad. They both had injuries and cuts on their faces. Reggie had a busted lip and Daniel a broken nose with a black eye.
"What is going on?" I typed quickly.
And this had to happen when I wasn't in school. The fuck!
"Seems like they have a beef, they'd been summoned by the principal" Was her reply.
I called her immediately climbing off my bed. It rang for some seconds before she picked, her face framing my phone.
Urgh. Remind me never to use face time again.
"Hey" She beamed. The place was rowdy. I could see students gathering at the background.
"What's going on?" It was obvious i was worried, not for Daniel but Reggie. He beat Daniel real bad and it might earn him a suspension. He just fucking started school again.
"Chill, they got what they deserve not after doing that to you" She rolled her eyes and I sighed.
"Anna—" I whined.
"Fine, I heard they got in to a fight because of what Daniel posted about you" She said clearly she was walking away from the scene.
I blinked. What? Why?
"What?" I asked and she sighed.
"Like why would they do that right?" She asked and I nodded. It was exactly the question I had in mind.
"Well, informants said Reggie asked Daniel to take the post down and apologize but Daniel refused and boom, the fight started" She chuckled.
"Don't you think Reggie is crazy? He's actually fighting another guy because he said something about you while he fucking kissed you and called you a whore, fucking first kiss" She rolled her eyes.
I was confused at this point. What was Reggie trying to prove? He could insult me but other guys couldn't?
"Hey bae" I returned my eyes back to the screen raising a brow. An arm wrapped around her waist.
She raised her phone higher and I could make out both their faces —Aiden.
He kissed her deep and she chuckled. I thought I saw tongue. Eww.
"C'mon, I'm still here. PDA, definitely not advised" I rolled my eyes and they pulled away from each other. Their eyes both held promise of what's to come.
Aiden turned to the screen flashing me a wide smile.
"Hi, Charlotte" he said, I returned his smile.
Shouldn't he be helping his friend out?
"Hi" I muttered raising my hand in a wave.
"Sorry, but I think I'm gonna take my girlfriend away, you would get her back as soon as possible" I faked a face placing his hand on his chest. I chuckled.
"Okay baby, see you. Muahh" she blew kisses and the line went dead.
I let out a deep breath. I was confused, I needed answers.
