Roy barely acknowledged Jace, his eyes fixed on Grace. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
Grace nodded, sensing the tension. "Of course." She turned to Jace, her expression softening. "I'll be right back."
Jace gave her a reassuring smile. "Take your time, Babe."
Before Grace could take a step towards Roy, her legs were tightly clasped by two soft hands.
Grace bent down to Charles's level and ruffled his hair. "How is my pumpkin doing?"
"I missed you," Charles said with an aggrieved expression.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart, I didn't know I'll be gone for too long. But I'm here now, right?"
Charles nodded, and at the same time, threw his father an accusing look.
Judging from the way his father was smiling, he was sure his father was the one who took his nanny away and didn't allow her to be with him all day.
