Bab 40: Cooking Something
Since there had been no follow-up visit from the military people, Theodore, who was bored in his house, decided to make something in his kitchen. Honestly, he was tired of always eating simple food these days.
So this time, Theodore decided to make some food to fill his spare time since he wasn't allowed to go out.
Theodore was also too lazy to go out if there was no reason for him to. He would wait until the military people had established their base later.
This time, Theodore planned to make stuffed dumplings. He wanted to make many variants of this menu, and he would chill the rest in the refrigerator so that he only needed to fry or boil them when he tried to eat them again.
The weather was already getting cold. Winter would come early this time. Theodore wanted to enjoy a warm meal and planned to boil dumplings.
"Looks like it was worth it to learn how to cook back then," Theodore murmured enthusiastically as he stepped into the kitchen.
Theodore took a chunk of beef from the sacred dimension, cut it in half, and put it back into the sacred dimension. He was only going to process this half of the chunk.
Theodore cut the meat into several smaller pieces. He also took out a blender from one of his cabinets; he needed to grind this meat first.
Theodore walked over to the fridge and removed the vegetables and other ingredients, such as chilli peppers, spring onions, and onions.
As he looked at the vegetables he had placed on the table, Theodore felt tired himself at the thought of having to cut them all up. But instead of getting bored from doing nothing, Theodore picked up the knife again and cut the vegetables into dice.
After preparing the other toppings for his dumplings, Theodore took the flour and eggs from the sacred dimension to make the dough.
"It's tiring. I think I'll just be busy doing this today," Theodore said as he sighed tiredly.
Theodore continued his activities in the kitchen. Until noon, he was busy forming dumpling skins and filling them with the meat filling and vegetable mixture he had prepared earlier.
Unfortunately, in the middle of his busy schedule, Theodore was surprised by a knock on the door of his apartment. Since the door had been knocked on so many times lately, he thought the world was still the same.
Feeling his hands sticky with traces of flour and dumpling filling, Theodore quickly washed his hands, then hurried to the door.
This time, Theodore would scold Geoffrey if he found the boy at the door of his apartment again, disturbing his peaceful day.
However, Theodore's mouth, which was ready to utter the beautiful words he had prepared for Geoffrey, was immediately held back when he saw that coming towards him was a group of soldiers carrying firearms in their hands.
"What are you doing here again?" Theodore frowned when he saw that the soldiers were carrying weapons and equipment ready for combat, unlike before.
"We came this time to ask for help from the survivors to help us build a base." As one of the soldiers explained their situation to Theodore, Roxanne's apartment door opened.
They didn't want to waste time telling them one by one, so they gathered the residents of the 15th floor.
"Indeed, what can we do to construct the base?" Theodore moved towards Roxanne and Geoffrey as the soldiers signaled him to gather.
"We need to build a perimeter fence around the base. And the information we are about to share is currently limited, so we hope you can answer honestly after this," one of the soldiers explained seriously.
In his heart, Theodore began to think about what information these soldiers would say. He had not been to city base A before, so he didn't really know what was going on in this base.
Theodore could only agree to their weights and see what information they would share with him.
"With the emergence of zombies today, the central government realized that even humans have awakened the power within themselves. And these awakened people are gaining power in return. Are any of you awakened people?" The armed soldiers looked intently at Theodore and the others.
After hearing the information, Roxanne and Geoffrey slowly turned their heads towards Theodore. Theodore was a savior figure for them, so they thought Theodore was an awakened person.
Meanwhile, Theodore, who was stared at like that by Roxanne and Geoffrey, could not help but be nervous. He thought that the power of this system was not the power of an awakened person like what these soldiers meant.
"Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like an awakened person. I'm just good with a sword," Theodore replied seriously, not forgetting to glance at Roxanne and Geoffrey sharply.
"Is that so?" Of course, the soldiers didn't just believe Theodore's words.
"Yes. Or if there are any awakened among you, you can show them to us so we can be clearer about this." Theodore also provoked the soldiers to give them more information.
In Theodore's previous life, this kind of event did happen, so humans were not ultimately defeated in this apocalypse world because there were selected humans who could gain power when they woke up.
Theodore wanted to know who had powers among these soldiers; that way, he could be wary of them.
Not long after that, a soldier let out fire from his palm. For a moment, Theodore was surprised. He didn't think it would be this easy to lure them to reveal their strength.
"He's a fire user. There are many types of powers of awakened people. We are still gathering information from this."
"And this time, we need people who have earth power or are useful for building a perimeter fence around our base. If you find anyone like this or yourself have it, I hope you can tell us."
"Unfortunately, we don't have such powers," Geoffrey said sadly. He also wanted to get such cool powers.
After that, the soldiers told Theodore and the others that a military base had been set up not far from the apartment and the neighborhood was completely safe, so they could go out.
The base will also provide food supplies twice daily to the survivors, and they can look for jobs in the military base. They will compensate with credits that can become a medium of exchange in the community later.
