Shou Zhi took the full brunt of the attack. Whatever splinters remained were effortlessly parried by the dark creature's ashen cane. With a rage-fueled roar, Shou Zhi raised his bestial hand, trying in vain to strike back as his strength left him. Blood pooled around his massive frame, his fur matted and wet. His eyes closed as he lost consciousness.

Mo Kan, still in shock from his near-death experience, snapped into action. But before he could move, the rusty cane came hurtling toward him.

Mu Lin blurred into existence, using every ounce of her speed to protect Wei Tian. Seeing Mo Kan in danger, she intervened, her sword meeting the cane in a clash of metal. The cane struck with such force that her sword chipped, its sharpness dulled by the impact.
