"Only a few minutes left before class starts, do you think the imposter is going to make it?" Pansy asked with a cruel smile making the others at her table laugh.

"I doubt it," Draco replied with a helpless shrug and a sly grin, "Mudbloods are rather dull creatures."

Draco's insult was met with another round of laughter from the group composed of Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson and Blaise Zabini. They had formed a clique rather quickly as they all shared the same ideology of pure blood supremacy, and their parents often moved in the same higher circles.

A few tables over Padma couldn't stop herself from frowning as she overheard the group of snakes bad mouthing Thane. She had thought that he would be placed into Ravenclaw with his dream of learning about the magical world. But Padma's hopes were dashed when the sorting hat announced its decision.

Padma's original thought was that she had somehow misread Thane, that there was a hidden evil lurking inside of him and that his entire demeanor on the train had been a clever ruse that she had fallen head over heels for.

Padma felt embarrassed and ashamed, and blamed Thane for taking advantage of her. But now hearing the way his fellow housemates talked about him Padma felt nothing but pity for Thane wondering how he would fare.

At that moment a deep rumbling sound echoed through the room and Padma looked over just as a section of the classroom wall slid aside to reveal a square passageway built into the brickwork.

A silver light shone from within the passage and a second later a glowing orb of light drifted into the classroom shortly followed by Thane who stepped out of the tunnel and looked around the room which was now solely focused on him.

The classroom erupted into a cacophony of hushed whispers and mutters as the classroom wall shifted back into place making it seem as if the tunnel had never existed.

Once more ignoring the countless looks his actions garnered Thane went to take a seat when he saw Padma staring at him with a look of disbelief on her face. Stopping in his tracks Thane flashed her a smile and watched as Padma blinked before a slight blush spread across her cheeks and she waved back hesitantly.

Just as Thane took a seat in the front row of the class, the door opened as a short man with a bushy white beard and long flowing green robes entered the room, "Oh please don't stop your conversation on my behalf. It'll take me five minutes to reach the front of the room with my legs!"

The man Thane assumed was Professor Flitwick joked with a twinkle in his eyes before he glanced over at the section of the wall that Thane had emerged from, "Hmm I haven't seen the castle be so active in quite some time. What an auspicious event."

The Professor then shuffled to the front of the class before climbing up the pile of books stacked and addressing the room, "Welcome all, I am your Charms Master Professor Flitwick. Today we're going to take a stab at a rather simple charm, but one that is bound to make your life easier if you ever have to help a friend move. I am of course talking about the levitation charm cast by saying the incantation Wingardium Leviosa performed in tandem with a simple flick and swish of your wand. Allow me to demonstrate."

Reaching into his robes the professor pulled out his wand and pointed at the books he was standing on, "Wingardium Leviosa!"

Almost instantly the pile of books rose several feet into the air with the professor riding atop who. After a second of hovering suspended in the air the books drifted back to the ground soundlessly, "Now while I might make it look easy I assure you, in a couple of minutes many of you will want to tear your hair out in frustration. Casting magic is an art that requires precision, accuracy and most of all patience. Never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said 's' instead of 'f' and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest."

Despite no one laughing at his joke Flitwick didn't seem discouraged as he continued to smile before waving his wand summoning a feather in front of every seat in the room, "The difficulty of the spell increases with duration, distance, and the weight of the object you are trying to manipulate. So we'll start off easy, feel free to spend the rest of the class casting as many times as you want. I'll draw the movements and incantation on the board and feel free to ask any question you have."

All at once the room was filled with the sounds of wood on leather as people pulled out their wands and pointed them at the feathers in front of them.

Taking out his spellblade Thane resisted the urge to simply use Wild Magic, but Elara would most likely scold him for showing off and revealing a hidden power that could serve him in a pinch.

So with a considerably lazy flick of his spellblade Thane muttered the incantation underneath his breath, "Wingardium Leviosa."

Feeling the magic flow down his arm and through his spellblade as the spell took effect Thane tilted the tip of his blade into the air making the feat jump off the desk and shoot into the air.

At first Thane's spell went unnoticed, but all it took was one subtle gasp and in a matter of seconds half the class was staring up at the feather flying through the air above Thane's head.

But things only devolved from there as people looked from the flying feather to the supposed wand in Thane's hand which had a suspiciously sharp point and was at a glance made out of metal.

"Oh my already?" Professor Flitwick exclaimed as he turned around and saw the craned heads looking at the flying feather, "Who managed to cast the spell so quickly?"

"It was me Sir."
