Bab 5: Chapter 5

(Location: Serene Moon)

Sokka stood at the bow of the ship and watched the water pass by. He tried to think, but what they were facing was making it hard for him to even concentrate. Suddenly there was a brief pain in his leg, as if something had bitten him. Instead of jumping and screaming as he normally would, he looked at the one who bit.

"I thought you stopped doing this to me, Akela," he said with humor.

The wolf cub's look said that he was thinking too much. Sokka and Akela didn't stay with each other for long. Sokka was fishing outside of town. He went away so as not to feel completely useless, since the reconstruction was carried out by water benders (Katara and Aang among them). He caught sea crabs to bring back more food. That made him at least somewhat useful. At that moment, he heard a whimpering sound coming from a nearby ice cave. He barely heard it, but it was still there. He went to see what the sound was and found a four-month-old wolf cub lying next to a she-wolf who had been burned alive. Sokka immediately realized that this was the puppy's mother. As he approached the puppy, it turned and growled at him, its fur covered in soot and ash.

He was bathing the puppy in the Spirit Oasis when Pakku and several of his students found him. As Sokka pulled the puppy out of the water, the waterbending master's anger turned to shock. The puppy's fur was pure white. Sokka and Katara were also surprised, but Aang was puzzled. When he was told about the tribe's myth about white wolves, he was as surprised as the rest of the group. By that time, the puppy had firmly moved into their hearts, and they decided to keep him. Sokka named the puppy Akela, after the alpha wolf from the myth.

Akela got along well with Appa. When they first met, Appa was sleeping. Akela simply jumped on Appa's head, made himself comfortable and also began to sleep. According to Sokka, they now had a friendship that began in "Holy Snore". Akela and Momo did not meet so easily. According to Katara, when Akela saw Momo, for some reason he grinned like Sokka did when he was hungry and saw something meaty. This led to a huge fun chase across the city. By the time it was over, Momo was hiding in Aang's clothes and Sokka was telling Akela that if he couldn't eat a winged lemur for dinner, then neither could he. After that, if Momo annoyed Akela, all Akela had to do was show him that same smirk and Momo would disappear faster than you could blink.

Akela pressed down on Sokka's leg. He reached down and scratched Akela behind the ear. The puppy was already big enough to reach his knee, and it looked like it was going to get even bigger.

"I was just thinking about what we were up against, that's all," he told him. It was hard not to tell, considering who it was.

(Flashback)

The prisoner was a Fire Tribe sailor, part of the fleet that attacked the Northern Water Tribe. He was captured while trying to return to the ships. Both Pakku and Chief Arnuk interrogated him, demanding information about the Fire Tribe's military forces and plans, but he only responded with silence and insults.

After four hours, Pakku and Arnuk allowed Aang, Katara and Sokka to talk to the prisoner (deciding that the Avatar could get answers from him), leaving them with a contingent of Waterbenders. Aang and Katara did most of the talking, and Sokka stood to the side and listened, but the prisoner only repeated their words.

"Well, what about you, little Water Tribe boy," he finally asked Sokka. - Don't you have a way to pump information out of me?

Sokka thought for a moment. He shook his head.

- No, I won't do that. - However, he had a question. - Do you know anything about a guy named Naruto?

The prisoner's head shot up so quickly that some hoped he had broken his neck.

- How do you know about Lord Naruto? - he demanded.

Sokka was a little surprised by his reaction. To be honest, he didn't expect such a reaction.

- I was there when he killed Zhao.

- What did you do to attract his attention?

"I stood in his way when he tried to take the Avatar, and I didn't move," he answered. What is all this for?

The prisoner looked surprised.

- And he didn't kill you?

- No, he asked my name, looked at the sky, asked a question, but did not receive an answer.

- And it's all?

- Well... - He probably shouldn't show what he found in his backpack that night, but he didn't know what else to do. - He didn't get an answer, but I found it later. - He took out a medallion with four strange symbols engraved on it. At the top of the medallion was an inverted triangle, and at the bottom a regular triangle. On the right side of the medallion was an inverted triangle with a line through it, on the left side was the same triangle with a line, but the right side was up. Each of the symbols had lines connecting it to the other symbol, either curving around the sides or running straight down the center.

Seeing the medallion, the prisoner was stunned. He looked down at his hands, chained to the ground, both made of ice. He inhaled and then melted them completely with fire magic. Before anyone could attack, the prisoner knelt in front of Sokka, his head touching the ground.

"Forgive me, Lord Sokka," he said. His voice was slightly muffled as it rose from the ground.

Everyone was stunned, but Sokka quickly came to his senses.

- Why should I forgive you? - he asked carefully.

The prisoner raised his face.

"I apologize because I didn't believe what you said about Lord Naruto."

"It's okay, but I still want to know who this Naruto is and what this medallion is."

- I don't know about the medallion itself. But the fact that you have it means that you are also a Paragon," he explained, although in fact his words did not explain anything.

Sokka was confused.

- Sample, what is it? - he asked.

- I can not tell. Only Lord Naruto can explain this to you. - He was almost ashamed.

Aang decided to interrupt him.

-What's so amazing about this Naruto? From what I've seen, he's a killer who doesn't even care about human life! - Even after their meeting, the Air Nomad did not think too highly of the blond.

The prisoner jumped to his feet, looking like he wanted to do serious damage to Aang, maybe even kill him. Sokka stood in front of him. It was almost funny to confront such a soldier. But he managed it.

"Leave me alone, soldier," he ordered, believing that the soldier would respond to such commands.

The prisoner complied, but looked at Aang.

"I'm not going to listen to you slander Lord Naruto." Every time he fights on the battlefield, he tries to make sure everyone stays alive. He's trying to save lives while you cower and hide, Avatar. So, shut up. Mine. Mouth.

Katara was about to answer when Sokka looked at her and shook his head. Looking at the prisoner, he asked:

-Can you tell me about him? - If the soldier was willing to tell him information, it might help if they ran into the blond again.

"Lord Naruto is Princess Azula's bodyguard and the Exemplar of the Fire Nation," the soldier explained. "He received an honorary title and is respected by soldiers, both magicians and non-magicians. He personally leads his men into battle and has won many victories. He is capable of fighting and defeating magicians on equal terms and has done this many times, both in the army of the Land of Fire and among his enemies.

- Is he a magician himself? - This was the decisive question. If this Naruto was a mage, then that meant he would be able to find a way to fight him.

- No.

- Why would he consider my brother his equal? Shouldn't he be more worried about the Avatar? - Katara asked.

The prisoner laughed at her.

-Lord Naruto doesn't even consider the Avatar a threat. He believes that a man who runs away and lets his people die is a weak coward without honor.

- I'm not a weakling or a coward! - Aang protested.

"You had to enter the Avatar State to attack us with that giant water monster, and Lord Naruto was able to defeat you with one swing of his sword." You are a weak coward and have no honor, that's why Lord Naruto doesn't respect you," he said mockingly.

Aang, feeling furious at these words, left. Katara quickly followed him.

"Thank you," Sokka said to the soldier. He left, allowing the nearby Waterbenders to shackle the prisoner again.
