Bab 130: Chapter 130: Encounter

Unaware of the situation inside the building, this approach was deemed the best solution.

As previously mentioned, placing the church's three-piece set in the demon's view was akin to waving something disgustingly offensive in its face.

For instance, the chanting emanating from the Bluetooth speaker in the bag was like cursing directly at the demon.

Furthermore, the low number of sanctity points, being only one, meant the damage was minimal, but the insult was maximized.

York was not worried that the demon would fail to seek him out.

Therefore, instead of searching himself, it was better to provoke the demon with the chanting from the Bluetooth speaker and have it come to him.

Of course, he could also swiftly and accurately locate the key position based on the floor where Bridget was.

Only by seeing it with his own eyes could he judge the specific situation.

Thus, abandoning the risky elevator, York proceeded up the main staircase, illuminated only by the flashing emergency lights, continuing to sift through the information Hannah had sent him on his phone.

The chanting from his bag also began to spread between the stairs, the volume loud enough to cover the entire area, unafraid of disturbing the peace or anything else.

York made no attempt to conceal his purpose, which was to have someone or something come to him.

Reaching the second-floor landing, York sifted through the abundant information to find a detailed list of all residents in the Reed Apartment Building.

The list was incredibly detailed, with name after name, making it dizzyingly comprehensive. It was unclear whose computer Hannah had hacked to obtain this information.

On the landing, lit only by the flashing emergency lights, York squinted as he searched for Bridget's name.

Although the apartment building was facing demolition, it was far from empty, with at least seven or eight households per floor, and the building had forty floors in total.

This undoubtedly increased the difficulty of the search, though it was not like looking for a needle in a haystack.

After some time, York found the household number where Bridget lived.

Apartment 1032 on the tenth floor, mother: Lisa, children: Danny, Bridget, Casey...

Surprisingly, Morse, who had failed a vasectomy reversal surgery, also lived in apartment 1031 next door.

This reminded York of the story Morse, the young man, had once told about his single mother neighbor.

There was indeed a connection between them.

Silently putting his phone back into the bag, York, carrying a revolving grenade launcher, glanced at the dimly lit staircase leading to the second segment, ready to dash up in one go.

The tenth floor was within easy reach for him.

However, as he stepped on the first stair, perhaps due to the chanting from the Bluetooth speaker doing its work, York heard some noises suddenly emanating from the second-floor corridor.

In the silence, the sounds, like the usual rustling accompanied by a hiss, added a touch of horror in the dim light.

"Hmm?"

York, expressionless, immediately turned to face the second floor and looked up.

Suddenly, three blood-covered figures appeared above him, their limbs sticking to the walls like spiders, with their upper bodies leaning forward.

They were bizarre and moved swiftly.

"A priest?"

One of the figures, a woman in pajamas, upon seeing that the source was a priest, seemed to freeze for a moment with an angry and ferocious face. She opened her bloodied mouth and sniffed forward.

"Such a fragrant soul!"

The other two reacted similarly, their pupils dilated with extreme desire, staring at the expressionless priest as if he were prey.

This eerie and supernatural scene would naturally terrify any ordinary person, as the three figures emitted a horrifying aura enough to petrify someone in place.

It was like being targeted by several predators ready to pounce in the wild, daring not to move.

Boom! Suddenly, thunder rumbled outside, lightning streaking across the sky, illuminating the terrifying speed of the three figures and their beast-like pupils.

It also lit up York's sharp eyes as he watched the three "spider-people" move swiftly along the walls, quickly piecing together the situation.

This building was not just inhabited by a single demon; all the demons had entered their final possession stage. Once this stage was reached, the hosts could essentially be considered dead, leaving only human shells controlled by demons.

It seemed the residents of the entire building had already...

This thought was fleeting as York, expressionless, quickly aimed the revolving grenade launcher at the woman, who was closest and moving the fastest, and fired.

"We shall not die!"

The woman had just hissed when the grenade shot at close range blew her upper body apart, not scattering flesh but rather like shattered lava rocks, peppering the ground from the ceiling.

The woman, who claimed she would not die, had her lower body fall and shatter on the floor like fragile eggshell lava rocks.

"So, it's the final stage..."

York sighed inwardly at the sight of the human body assimilated by the demon, quickly shifting his aim to the second assimilated figure, a middle-aged man.

Seeing his stunned posture on the wall, York fired without hesitation.

"You!"

The middle-aged man seemed to sense something, his limbs stuck to the wall as he leaned out towards York with a ferocious yell.

York tilted his head, not even looking at the man's fate, and seamlessly, his left fist clenched like a true boxer's, his body swiftly moving to the left, punching the last young man who had approached during this brief moment.

The explosive force of the punch was tremendous.

The young man, assimilated by the demon, felt as if he had been struck by a speeding dump truck, his body launched by the impact into the ceiling, causing it to dust.

The demon inside began to realize its control over the human body was like a rusty robot, its joints jammed.

Knowing he couldn't move in the short term, the young man, as he fell, stared at the priest below, who was aiming the grenade launcher at him, his beast-like pupils flashing with confusion.

Why was this human different from the others?

Unfortunately, York would not answer. His launcher aimed, he fired.

In the dimly lit landing, the launcher spat out sparks.

The last young man, assimilated by the demon, was blown into shattered lava rocks mid-air.

The remains fell to the floor, not with a thud but with a crisp crack, breaking apart like lava rocks...

York put away the grenade launcher, looking at the smoky lava rocks scattered on the landing floor, pondering two questions.

Were these low-level demons?

So, what was the reason? Was it like the Hell's Gate at the Saint Cata Monastery?

He then looked towards the staircase leading to the third floor, stepping onto the middle platform between the two staircases.

Time to investigate.

The Bluetooth speaker in his bag continued to broadcast the prayers.

York, eyeing the third floor that began to make noises, twisted the cylinder of the grenade launcher, his right hand pulling a sacred grenade from the band across his chest to load it...
