Charles closed his eyes, and the storm of thoughts began to swirl in his mind. His psychic ability spread farther out until it gathered the brainwaves of everyone into one place, and then he pressed the final switch.
With a swish, several people landed on the ground.
The war-torn scene they had imagined did not occur; they landed in a relatively quiet alley. Charles turned his head and saw the figures of Shiller and Wanda, and he also heard Jarvis's inquiry in his ear.
A small red dot floated beside Wanda. Jarvis's avatar appeared in it as he spoke, "I have read the fluctuation data of the brainwaves, it seems you have successfully arrived at the destination."
"I am able to receive the information sent by David, but for some reasons, he is now unable to contact you, so I am conveying it on his behalf. He manipulated the landing point of this descent as he believes it might be beneficial for your investigation to have a look at the city where he lives."
"That was our plan, and we appreciate his help," said Charles, involuntarily looking up at the vast shadow that was overspreading the sky, "But I'm afraid we can't just have a look anymore..."
Wanda and Shiller both looked up, and they saw a giant manta ray floating in the sky.
Yes, a manta ray that was drifting in mid-air, a damn one with blue eyes.
"Don't tell me this thing is also one of his personalities," Wanda swallowed hard and said, "It can even be non-humanoid."
"No one said it had to be humanoid," Charles said as Wanda involuntarily glanced at Shiller and then whispered, "Well, I guess I jumped to conclusions, but I don't understand what this fish can do."
They soon found out what the fish could do because its belly suddenly extended several gun barrels and shot lasers at them.
The Scarlet Witch waved her hand, a red glowing shield enveloped them, and Shiller looked up at the fish, seemingly calculating the distance between them, ready to make a move.
But the fish seemed not to be targeting them; it swayed in the sky and flew past, with the laser carving a path of sparks and lightning on the ground, then just flew away.
"My God, what kind of life is he leading?" Wanda said incredulously, "His mind is full of these things, how on earth can he think?"
But Charles's expression soon turned blank again, and he shouted, "Run!"
The Scarlet Witch instinctively reached out to block, but a whirlwind picked her up. While she was unable to stabilize her position in the air, several wind blades shot towards them.
Charles, likewise tossed into the air, quickly reached out his hand, the person opposing them seemed to be interrupted, and with a buzz, the whirlwind and wind blades dissipated.
Charles and Wanda uncontrollably fell down, a figure first caught Wanda, who was about to hit the ground, then caught Charles and placed the two of them safely on the ground.
"Oh, thank you," Charles thanked Shiller. Just now in the air, he saw Shiller had amazing coordination, even in mid-flight he remained stable, as if he was born to fly.
The dust stirred up by the whirlwind dissipated, and what came into view of the three was a boy with lightning-shaped hair, wearing a malicious smile.
The moment they saw the boy's face, they also saw a flash of a knife heading towards him. Shiller with a boning knife in hand, landed almost simultaneously with the knife strike.
"Ah!"
A knife slash hit the boy, nearly splitting him in half. He let out a severe screech, rapidly retreated, and the fierce whirlwind picked up again.
Yet Shiller had already pulled back. He shook his head and said nothing, but the anomaly that followed made Charles and Wanda realize what was going on.
The boy's figure started to flicker and soon vanished into nothing. The chaos brought by his superpower also dissipated, which meant he was killed, but he was originally very fragile, appearing like a newborn.
Boom!
A violent air current surged down the narrow street, and in the moment the transparent ripples spread out, the Scarlet Witch quickly waved her hand and shouted, "Stop!"
The shock wave paused just a meter from them, and a punk-dressed woman emerged, exhaling a puff of smoke, "Not bad for a newborn, how about joining Wildfire?"
"What's Wildfire?" Charles asked curiously.
The punk woman sighed and said, "It's an organization in this city, also the strongest one. If you don't want to be killed off by those powerful beings, you better find some backing."
"Hold on," Wanda was even more confused as she said, "Aren't you...?"
Charles stopped her. He knew this was an excellent opportunity to gather information, and then said, "We don't know what's going on, we were attacked the moment we landed."
"That's normal. That damn lunatic went insane, and now everyone's in danger. Everyone wants to survive until the end, so naturally, they try to eliminate their competitors as much as possible. You, powerful newborns, will definitely be targets."
Before her words ended, a man looking like a road movie protagonist, wearing a jacket, appeared at the end of the alley. He snorted coldly and said, "Don't talk big, Jane."
A huge, red, rotund figure appeared behind him, seemingly surging with powerful explosive gases. The first thing Wanda did was to quickly grab Shiller, as this was not something you hack at with a knife.
"Sheer opposition and elimination are not the way out, we must consume and evolve," the man in the jacket said. "Only by absorbing other personalities to become stronger can we stand against God and Satan."
Charles opened his mouth to say something but couldn't. You could say that this psychic landscape is rich, and it indeed is, but it is really hard for a sane person to imagine how a single brain could direct so many dramas of love and hate.
Of course, many psychiatric patients harbor fantasies in their minds, but after all, fantasies are just fantasies, illusions that collapse upon touch. Charles's psychic ability usually has the highest priority when dealing with most such fantasies, but now his power was telling him that this was real, not an illusion.
Charles's gaze focused on the fearful, timid fat red-haired woman in a floral dress that was walking behind the punk woman.
"I think we need to retreat first," Charles lowered his voice and said, "I can't beat the person following behind us. Her energy level is frighteningly high."
Wanda looked puzzled; she knew Charles was the youthful Professor X, and the strength of Professor X was undoubtedly immense. Thus, puzzled, she turned her head to look.
"You mean that fat woman? I feel okay, I can almost handle her."
Then another man, wearing a silver-white helmet and clad entirely in silver-white, stepped out from behind the man in the jacket, followed by a little girl with golden hair and dressed in a pink skirt behind the punk woman.
Wanda swallowed hard and said, "I think you're right, where the hell are all these Omega-Level Mutants coming from?!!"
Both of them turned their heads to look at Shiller simultaneously.
Shiller's gaze, however, was fixed on a female figure enveloped in a soft blue glow, quietly floating atop the collapsed ruins in the distance.
From Shiller's eye, Charles and Wanda could tell that this blurry female figure seemed to be the main reason Shiller was still standing calmly here, choosing not to act rashly.
"I can give it a try," Wanda communicated to Charles through Jarvis within the power of Scarlet, "The Scarlet power's ability to manipulate probability still applies here. I can use it to probe their levels. If it works, I can handle them."
"It's too risky, Wanda," Jarvis interjected with a timely warning, "Based on my analysis, any mutant who can reach an Omega level has a certain ability to affect the rules of reality; probability is not omnipotent."
"The problem is that we can't run now," Wanda sighed, "Unless I take you directly out, to move in this world, we would have to fight them all. Who among you is confident they can win?"
"I can try," said Charles, "I have never released my power in full."
"Neither have I."
"Let's pick an easy target."
The two of them looked at Shiller again, who was still staring at the woman. Charles and Wanda exchanged glances.
"Alright, excluding that toughest nut, I choose the fat woman," Wanda turned and stared at the red-haired woman.
"Then I'll take the guy with the silver helmet," Charles looked toward the man in silver-white armor standing behind the man in the jacket.
Almost instantly, the two of them sprang into action.
The sky was dyed red with the power of Scarlet. The punk woman leading them widened her eyes in surprise, whooshed to the side, and slowly stood up, saying, "Why are this batch of newcomers so strong?"
The fat woman in the floral dress sniffed and revealed a fierce look, saying, "I'm not one to be trifled with either!"
The power of Scarlet, like a giant hand, reached towards her. The woman wasn't fast enough to dodge and just as a triumphant look was about to appear on Wanda's face, the fat woman's muscles exploded in size and, like a sponge absorbing water, she swelled dramatically.
With a boom, the power of Scarlet was torn apart as she leapt high into the air, crashing down like a boulder in front of Wanda.
Wanda furrowed her brow and retreated quickly as the enemy hurled a massive piece of debris toward her. A sharp whistling filled Wanda's ears as she crossed her hands in an X-shape; a shield appeared just in time to be struck by an uppercut, launching her into the air.
Bang bang bang bang bang!
The fat woman's punches were incredibly fast, leaving Wanda somewhat shocked as she noticed cracks in her shield.
This was a shield made of dense Scarlet power; most mutants at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters couldn't leave a mark on it in one full-strength hit. In Wanda's estimation, only Jean Grey's Phoenix inside her was something she wasn't completely sure the shield could withstand.
This indicated that the fat woman's strength far exceeded the norm, likely already at The Hulk's level—it was just unknown whether she could become stronger with anger; if so, her upper limit might be higher than The Hulk's, especially since this was in the Psychic_Battlefield.
Humans typically don't have such robust mental defenses, not even the strongest mind power user, Professor X, whose offensive capabilities far exceed his defense. The Scarlet Witch's power, the Scarlet energy, due to its special nature, could withstand such powerful attacks.
Wanda hesitated for a moment and, apart from her shield, she gave up using any energetic forms of Scarlet power and began to commune with the cosmos instead.
The red light in her eyes ignited for an instant and with a gesture of her hand toward the fat woman, she said, "Fall!"
Bang!
The fat woman was smashed into the ground, but in an instant, everyone turned their heads towards her, including the blue female figure who had been floating calmly all along.
"Another probability power user!" The punk woman screamed, "Susan! Get her! We have to have her!!"
The little girl with golden pigtails and dressed in a pink skirt immediately put her hands together, golden light blooming from her palms.
At once, Wanda felt an overwhelming fury erupt from her heart, and Jarvis's alarming warnings were simultaneously blaring.
"Warning! Warning! Wanda! Your emotions are out of control! Get a grip on your power! Warning!"
Back in reality, Stark was stunned as he observed lights flickering wildly and instruments incessantly blaring alarms, with Jarvis's roars echoing through the lab.
"The power of Scarlet is about to lose control! Pull her back in!!!!"
