Bab 6: Roel's Demise and the Enigmatic Beautiful Figure in the Heart of the Forest

700 kilometers from the imperial palace of Arcadia, the Forbidden Forest

"Whoosh!"

A mysterious figure, shrouded in a black cloak, glided through the dense, towering trees, reaching the heart of the forest.

After some time, the man in the black cloak came to a halt, descending near a sizable lake at the forest's core.

"Perhaps leaving him here will resolve everything." The figure, none other than the deputy of the shadow guards acting on Julius's orders to remove Roel's dying body from the palace, carefully positioned Roel's unconscious form beside a tall tree near the lake.

Mixed emotions and anxiety played across his face as he observed Roel's pallid complexion and struggling breaths.

"Is this the right thing to do? Am I betraying humanity by carrying out these orders?" The deputy shadow guard murmured in a hushed tone, grappling with a sense of guilt for his actions.

While he wasn't the one directly responsible for Roel's condition, carrying out Julius's orders weighed heavily on him as a fellow human being.

Roel symbolized hope for mankind, and his potential undoubtedly promised glory for humanity in the future.

Yet, the future hero of mankind now faced imminent death, brought about by an emperor of humanity's own empire!

"Forgive me for this grave sin!" The deputy shadow guard clasped his hands together, biting his lower lip in anguish, before finally turning away and disappearing from the scene, leaving Roel alone beside a tall tree near the lake.

The forbidden forest was shrouded in mystery and peril, housing numerous powerful and terrifying monsters.

Undoubtedly, with the poison relentlessly corroding his body and the multitude of monsters surrounding him, Roel faced an inevitable demise.

"Ugh... Am I going to die here?" Roel, who had already regained half of his consciousness, muttered with some difficulty.

The poison of the king of hell, renowned as the most terrifying poison in the world, was far from a mere exaggeration.

The poison operated by inflicting relentless torment on the victim, starting with a persistent, piercing dizziness that eventually culminated in the complete internal destruction of the entire body.

Furthermore, its impact was particularly severe on mages, as the core disk—the essence of a mage—underwent a slow disintegration.

Being a level 10 mage with ten core disks within his body, one could only fathom the excruciating pain he currently experienced as each core disk succumbed to destruction.

In essence, his life and struggles following the transmigration would be rendered futile after this ordeal.

Despite being aware that this marked the conclusion of his life, Roel managed only a faint, resigned smile.

"I never anticipated being ensnared by an emperor I had never even considered. Is this the sensation protagonists experience between life and death in novels? Hehehe, it's a pity, but I'm not the protagonist, and this world isn't a novel world..." Roel whispered weakly, feeling, for the first time, the grip of impending death.

Indeed, he transmigrated into Roel Lionis' body during an inadvertent nap after completing his work.

Consequently, this marked his initial encounter with the agony preceding death.

As time passed, his vision grew increasingly hazy, and his eyelids weighed heavily on him.

Nevertheless, as he was gradually losing consciousness, he suddenly noticed a white-haired woman, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, walking towards him in the distance.

Despite the woman's slow pace and the blurred vision as he gazed at her face, Roel unexpectedly experienced a brief moment of crystal-clear vision.

Beautiful, exquisite, charming, and numerous other compliments flooded Roel's heart, yet he found himself unable to articulate any of them.

"So beautiful..." he whispered before finally closing his eyes, his entire consciousness enveloped by the tranquil darkness.

...

"Is this the afterlife?" Roel suddenly found himself in an exceedingly dark expanse.

The darkness was so profound and the silence so absolute that he couldn't discern anything.

Acknowledging that he was likely deceased, he released a subdued sigh.

"What an unexpectedly brief life," Roel muttered, annoyance transforming into a resigned sigh.

It's not that he lacked regrets in his life, leaving him with a sense of unease about his impending death.

Having transmigrated to the Artaria world and lived there for 25 years, he naturally formed connections with family, friends, and those closest to him.

Of course, the family he spoke of wasn't his biological one, as his parents in this world had perished in the border war.

The younger sister he had was the little girl he had cared for and rescued from the flames of the war between the human and demon races a dozen years ago.

Nevertheless, his younger sister held the most special and cherished place in his heart.

Luckily, she resided at the Saint Heines Magic Academy, bringing him some comfort in knowing that Julius was less likely to face danger.

At the academy, he had close friends and teachers who had looked after him since he was a new student.

Now, they were all memories of a life that had come to an end.

"Fate is truly filled with mysteries." Julius' words echoed once again in his mind, and he found himself acknowledging their truth.

"Well, maybe this is my true fate, and perhaps Julius managed to evade his fate, hahaha," Roel laughed aloud, gradually regaining his composure.

He had started to come to terms with his current situation and fate.

However, shortly thereafter, in the profound darkness, a minuscule point of light suddenly emerged.

The light, initially tiny, began to grow slowly, as if shaping into a tunnel.

"Huh? What is that?" Roel exclaimed in surprise, feeling his body being pulled by an unseen force.

"What!" he exclaimed in amazement, without allowing himself a moment for further astonishment, as the force pulled him into the light, leaving the dark space behind.
