Rosaline anxiously entered the ambulance. She still could not think clearly. All she could see was a boy lying in front of her in the ambulance bed—bloody, lacerated, blind, beyond recognition, and unconscious. She could not control her tears. He was just with her this morning. So bright and full of life, so spirited. She was remembering all the sweet memories of her time with this boy. Her heart was breaking apart.

“Oh, Tom! How could this happen to you?”

She held Tom's hand and tried combing through his bloody hair. The blood from the lacerations in his head came out and coagulated in his hair; they got stuck together. She kept her hand on his head.
