Only if Raon knew that the Diplodor also wanted the Ore he stowed away and didn't have an iota of an idea about his true goal, he would've doubted its intelligence.

Raon had sneaked past the fights when the Rock Eaters surrounded the expedition team members, unbothered about their life and death.

He also sneaked past the fight with the Diplodor after poisoning it and luckily survived the berserk Rock Eater.

All of this just made his goal of coming here all the more important, as he even came to an important realization on the way here.
