Lucian's vision became blurry as the last thing he was able to see was the blood on the ground. They had done it… they had managed to kill those who had been hired to kill them.
As red obstructed his vision, he slowly regained it as he could now see they had been teleported back to the meeting room. It was now time to face the hardest part of this challenge… the discussion with the other participants.
Ever since it started, Lucian hadn't noticed any of them, as he had been too focused on Darius and the fact he wanted to kill them. However, now that they were gone… he still needed to win this game.
'Let's hope that none of us gets eliminated…'
Lucian knew it would be hard to pull off, especially after they had shown such strength. Everyone who had witnessed it would be scared of them. It was simply a logical reaction… all humans wouldn't want to be sharing space with literal murderers… especially ones that they couldn't defend against.
Alex and Ava were on another level, after all. Their talents were completely mindblowing… and their skills were even more.
As Lucian had all those thoughts, a high-pitched voice made him return to reality.
"Let's vote for her!"
She pointed instantly toward Ava, who was now all cute looking, completely different from back then.
'Only three minutes… to convince them. Let's do this.'
Lucian motivated himself. He knew this was now or never.
"Why do you want to vote for us? We literally helped you by protecting you from an impostor… without us, the spaceship would have crashed onto the ground. I'm sure you remember what the system had written."
Lucian simply smiled while uttering those words. He knew his defense was rock solid… actually, there was only one small gap within it, and he hoped no one would be smart enough to catch it or, rather… remember it.
"If we were impostors, don't you think we would have let you guys get attacked, and then we would have won by default? Why would we benefit from what we did?"
The girl who had spoken up wasn't sure of what she could say next… She seemed to be thinking and thinking as much as she possibly could…
"Then where did you guys leave for a whole three minutes? Did you go and make a plan while we were working our butt off?"
Some people around the roundtable seemed to agree with her.
'Well, that was the thing I was worried about… I don't think any excuses could be good enough… and well, we cannot really tell the truth. Our excuse literally isn't good enough, after all.'
Lucian knew that if he said they had been asking each other's roles, everyone in the room would have been in pure confusion… for the simple fact that it shouldn't take three minutes to do such a thing.
"The reason we were away was because we needed to talk."
The one who had said this wasn't Lucian, obviously… but Alex… He just couldn't help but join in the conversation whenever he could…
"Talk about what?"
"Many things."
Alex's answers were as cold as ice… just like he was used to. But it REALLY wasn't the right time for that. It was like he didn't understand that he could fail this trial if he were to get kicked out.
"If you don't want to tell us about those things, we will simply kick you out of the trial. Who's with me?"
She tried to rally the others with her,… which seemed to have worked.
"Yes! Tell us, where did you go?"
"Tell us, or else we'll vote for you."
Alex gritted his teeth while Lucian thought and thought as fast as possible. He needed to answer something smart and believable before Alex opened his mouth again.
'Right… the map. Let's look at the map.'
Lucian opened it quickly and tried looking at something they could have done… There were many named emplacements on the map with no colors attached to them, and Lucian planned to use them.
"We looked around the spaceship and tried finding things that could help us in the long run… and while doing that, we talked. That's what we did. Are you happy now?"
Lucian was satisfied with his answers… However, he knew there would obviously be some backlash about their actions. But he couldn't care less if it meant coming out of this vote without losing anyone. That was the only thing he cared about…
Everyone started to look at each other when they heard his answer. It clearly made them think.
"Did you find something, at least?" The high-pitched voice asked them.
She seemed to be the one who would take the role of the spokesperson for the group that consisted of seventeen people since three were now dead.
"...We didn't. We just searched everything so fast that finding something worthy of helping was hard. However, because of that, we know the spaceship and all its intricacies extremely well. Don't you worry, we'll guide you!"
Lucian had a big smile on his face. He wanted to look as friendly as possible, and it seemed to work somewhat. However, behind that smile of his… he was currently trying to find something that he could potentially use on her in the near future… and the first step to doing that was using his special skill, "Insight".
