Bab 31: Chapter 31 - Beast
Three days later, Zach could be found together with the volunteered youths whom he started calling 'Rangers' in the middle of the road as they started their daily routine exercise. The number has become larger than before after several bored men or women decided to give it a shot as they have nothing else to do.
Nothing worthy events have occurred during the past few days aside from some people entering and joining the base. Everyone had their own share of work especially the skilled and professionals as they were still working for the betterment of the place seeing that the walls surrounding the base had started to form.
Not before long, Zach stopped after finally reaching five kilometers. He then headed to a place that had been created for resting purposes. It was an open field with nothing but a clean area with an infrastructure like a canteen.
Following that, Zach then told everyone to rest for a while since they still weren't done as they still needed to do some push-ups and such. With that, everyone then started talking to each other as they were already been familiar after living for so long while befriending the newly added recruits.
Meanwhile, Zach could be found alone sitting quietly on a chair. He didn't mind the noise as he was focused on something else. He stared at his status panel after not looking at it for a while now and was curious as to what it had become.

Looking at the numbers, Zach didn't expect that he had already accumulated more than a hundred free attributable stat points which only means that it's already been a hundred or more days since he has looked at it.
Zach thought of saving them before for the right moment since the last calamities weren't that dangerous, however, upon thinking that the next calamity would soon happen again, he felt like it would not hurt a little to use a number of them to prepare for the worst.
'Adding 10 for each attribute would suffice I guess.' Zach thought before using 60 free attributable stat points for power-up. With that, he immediately felt the sudden change that happened to his body. He looked at his hand as he made a fist after feeling that he was full of strength at the moment.
"This will do." Zach said before closing his status panel. After that, he stood up and looked at the men and women around him. He then signaled Max to silence everyone as he thought that they already had enough rest and was now time to continue.
With that, Zach and the rest spent more than an hour in the area before leaving as they headed towards another direction as they still had gun and knife practice. It was the time when everyone was very eager to learn as they already had the weapon of their liking.
Time passed by and night then came, however, the atmosphere of the base was quite strange and very quiet. Everyone was outside of their houses while looking at a particular building waiting curiously as they heard some bad news from one of the people who was tasked to look for survivors outside the base.
Meanwhile, Zach together with Jenny, Anna, Carl, Max, and Rose could be found inside the room while looking at the man who was being treated carefully upon seeing many injuries on his body.
The man's name was Henry, he was a part of a group of five who left the base a few days back to look for survivors. The reason behind his situation was due to the fact that their group met a group of lawless people. In fact, they shouldn't have been in trouble if it was just any normal lawless people however, they were very unlucky to have met with people with guns.
Henry told everyone that they had no choice but to fight back however due to the sheer number of the enemy and their inexperience in warfare, two men of their group died while the other two which were women had been probably spared and their situation was unknown. He was left alone running on his way back as he didn't know what to do and even if he stayed and fought back, he was too injured to continue.
"I'm completely sorry, everyone." Henry apologized as he looked at Zach and the others thinking that he must have brought disappointment and the fact that he had left his two other companions without knowing their situation made him feel bad and guilty.
"Don't be since it is also my fault. I'm just glad that you've brought this news back to us. As for the two women, I promised to bring them back and enact justice and vengeance on your dead companions. Rest well for tonight, Henry." Zach replied with great sadness. He knew that those two dead men would not be dead if not for his order to look for survivors and so he was also guilty.
Zach then just headed outside with a very serious look on his face. Henry's news brought a piece of very bad news as it would mean that there was still danger out there and that the other people had already banded together giving rise to some tyrants and overlords.
Seeing Zach walk out of the building, everyone was very curious about what was happening but they stopped inquiring after seeing his serious face. They then just remained silent before looking at Jenny and the rest and that was when they knew what it was all about.
Not long before that, the people had dinner but everyone was quite worried by the news that they just learned. They were all thinking about what Zach would do since they pretty much didn't have a voice in this matter as it all fell on Zach's decision.
It's getting late and everyone has started getting back to their houses to rest. However, some of the people who were still awake and were staying outside were very curious as they all looked at Zach together with another twenty Rangers with him heading out of the base.
At exactly 2 A.M. in the morning, Zach and his group of 20 Rangers could be found lurking in the shadows while holding their guns tightly. These youths were carefully selected among the Rangers. They were the best in the group and the most serious among them.
After traveling for some distance, Zach and the rest arrived at the place where Henry's group was attacked. It was a place near another city as there were already ruined buildings and infrastructures at the distance with many damaged vehicles along the way.
Zach's group had only one objective for this operation and that was to annihilate these lawless people and save the two women if they were still alive. Zach has decided to erase them early before they could gather more and become more troublesome in the future. And everyone who had joined him knew this fact and yet they were willing to follow him.
In fact, Zach could do all of this alone but thinking about what happened to Henry, the inexperience that caused them to lose two men, he felt like it was necessary for these people to know how to use guns in real action and become cruel when necessary since it was only then they could survive this world full of desperate people.
Arriving at a random building, Zach and his group stopped moving as they could hear some noise not that far from them. They didn't know clearly what it was so they remained cautious especially since they were in the enemy's territory.
As they continued to listen, Zach then ordered three of his men who were carrying a sniper to locate where it came from while telling the others to remain silent and vigilant. The three snipers carried his orders as they scattered around the place and not before long, one of them gave a signal that he had sightings.
Zach immediately took out a binocular as he looked at the location where the sniper had told him and there he saw a man having sex with a woman, however, his expression immediately turned sour as bulging veins could be seen on them as he was familiar with the woman who was being toyed with.
Zach, however, remained silent as he carefully looked at the surroundings to see how many were still awake since aside from the man, there were also two men beside them having fun with another woman. As Henry didn't specify the number of enemies, it would be suicide to just barge in without a plan.
Fortunately, they decided to do it now since almost all the people on the other side were asleep with only several being awake. Their total number, however, was quite large seeing almost thirty people including a group of captive women discarded on the side.
Not long after that, Zach then told everyone the plan ordering the snipers to remain in position and wait for instruction while they silently surround the place. If things go as planned, this operation will be easy knowing that their enemies are unprepared and clueless for what is to come.
As they were now in place, everyone was very nervous as aside from it being their first time doing this operation, it was also their first time killing a living person. Their eyes couldn't help but look at the sleeping people in the distance since it was only a matter of one trigger and their life would end or maybe theirs if they messed up.
Meanwhile, Zach was looking at them with understanding as he knew what they were feeling right now as he also experienced such a thing back then. He then just let them calm down a bit as he wanted this to be as smooth as possible.
Following that, Zach then finally gave the signal from which three gunshots echoed together. Everyone then was alerted as some of the sleeping people rose up from their sleep however, it was already too late because right after that, several gunshots echoed throughout the place as Zach and the rest started firing.
On the other hand, the two women were completely dumbfounded by what just happened as they already started running to take cover. It was also the same for the others who were tied up as they started panicking while crying for help as blood continued to spill on the ground.
After that, Zach and the rest then started moving closer and didn't spare their bullets as they continued firing on their way. Everyone knew how their bodies had changed in the past few months and so they knew how sturdy their bodies had become. They don't want to miss anyone since who knew if they were still alive and might be the cause of their demise.
Some of the enemies took covers and tried to fight back however, it was to no avail as the snipers were also doing their work, and not long after that, the gunshots then finally disappeared and were replaced by a complete silence with a little weeping from the captive women.
"Go and help them." Zach then ordered. With that, everyone then does what he says as they look after the women, especially the two women who they were familiar with. He, however, continues to look at the place trying to make sure everyone is dead before stopping after seeing a very gruesome situation.
"Beasts." Zach said angrily as he looked at the burnt human body. Looking at it, he had come to know that it might not burnt incidentally as he could see bones not that far from it with still chunks of meat in them with noticeable bite marks.
"I'm going stay here for the next few days. Tell my mother and the others that I will be back before the next calamity. Go. You still had a long way back to the base." Zach then gave his final order. He thought that since he was already here, he might as well look at the place and see if there was something that he could still use in the area.
Not questioning Zach's order, everyone then bid their farewell as they left the place together. The captive women expressed their heartfelt gratitude as they looked at Zach's back before following the others to the place they call base.
On the other hand, Zach also started working as he gathered all the dead bodies around and put them all together before setting them on fire as he didn't want them to rot which might spread an illness. After that, he immediately set off to explore the place while also exercising extreme caution.
