A warm smile appeared on his lips, and a flash of determination crossed his eyes.
"No, Boss, Earth is Anna's home," Constantine said with a gentle smile.
In truth, he really wanted to explore the magnificent vistas of the universe with Zane, but for Anna's sake, he was willing to stay behind.
Perhaps one day, when Anna grows tired of Earth, Constantine might start following in Zane's footsteps.
"Alright, then say goodbye to Anna for me. I won't say it myself; no need to add to the sadness."
Zane seemed to have expected Constantine's answer. Somewhere along the way, the once carefree rogue Constantine had turned into a man who cherished his home.
"Sure," Constantine nodded as he glanced at Anna busy in the kitchen.
"Oh, and if you ever dare to mistreat Anna, and I find out, you better watch out—I'll come back and kick your butt," Zane teased, lightening the slightly somber mood of their farewell.
On the other end of the line, Constantine chuckled wryly.
"Boss, if she doesn't bully me, I'd be eternally grateful. I wouldn't dare mistreat her; I've already had to kneel on shattered keyboards several times."
Constantine whispered into the phone, covering the receiver with his hand and glancing nervously at Anna, worried she might overhear.
"Haha, alright then," Zane laughed heartily.
"Boss, take care!"
"You and Anna too."
With that, Zane was the first to hang up the phone.
Constantine, still holding the now silent phone, stared in the direction of Zane's villa, lost in thought.
It wasn't until Anna's voice called out to him that he was brought back to reality.
"Honey, come help me!"
"Coming!"
At the dinner table, Constantine watched as Anna ate her meal while watching TV. Suddenly, he spoke up.
"The Boss and the others have left."
Anna's hand froze momentarily, a deep sense of reluctance flashing in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.
"I know, I heard everything when you were on the phone," Anna replied calmly.
Since being transformed by the [Death River], Anna's senses had become incredibly sharp, and she had heard every word spoken in the living room, including the less-than-flattering things Constantine had said to Zane.
At the same time, Constantine placed a fried egg into his mouth.
The overwhelming flavor completely numbed his taste buds. Just as he instinctively wanted to spit out the egg, he looked up to see Anna's face, smiling but with a dangerous glint in her eyes, as if to say, "If you dare spit that out, you'll regret it."
"I think I heard you say some unpleasant things to
the Boss."
"Must've been a misunderstanding, definitely a misunderstanding!"
Constantine's survival instincts kicked into overdrive as he quickly swallowed the egg, which was loaded with an absurd amount of wasabi.
"Hmph!"
Tears welled up in Constantine's eyes as he struggled to hold them back.
Boss, is it too late to change my mind…?
Meanwhile, in the vast expanse of the universe, nine ancient planets, mysteriously linked since time immemorial, began to slowly move toward alignment, following an inexplicable trajectory.
In the palace of Asgard, Odin, seated on his throne with his eye closed in deep thought, suddenly opened his single eye and murmured to himself.
"The time is drawing near!"
Just as Zane was on the phone bidding farewell to Constantine, a group of superheroes had gathered to see off the mischievous Loki and Thor, who was tightly bound.
Almost at the exact moment when Heimdall opened the Bifrost for them, Zane, along with his group, who had already packed their belongings, stepped into the portal leading to Asgard.
And so, the two groups unexpectedly met on the Bifrost.
"Lord Zane, what a coincidence," Thor said, holding the shackled Loki with one hand. When he saw Zane and his group suddenly appear before him, his eyes flashed with shock, and his muscles tensed instinctively. Sparks of electricity began to flicker on his hammer, Mjolnir.
But the next moment, Thor suppressed this instinctive reaction, forcing an awkward yet polite smile onto his face.
"Well, if it isn't young Thor, bringing your brother back," Zane said with a bright smile, looking at the embarrassed Thor. He spoke as if Asgard were his own home and Thor the guest, showing no sign of discomfort.
"You did well on Earth before. It seems you've grown quite a bit over the past few years."
"Thank you for your praise, Lord Zane. I still have many areas that need improvement," Thor responded, quickly regaining his composure after the initial shock of seeing Zane. His temperament had matured considerably over this period, and he was now approaching problems with the mindset of an adult.
Even though Zane had previously treated him like a plaything on Earth, nearly exhausting him to death, Thor's respect for Zane had only grown. The sheer power to annihilate an entire advanced civilization from across light-years had made Thor put aside any lingering resentment and treat Zane with the utmost respect.
Especially now, with the Nine Realms teetering on the brink of war due to the near-extinction of the Frost Giants, tensions were running high. While no large-scale battles had erupted, skirmishes were ongoing, and the Nine Realms felt like a powder keg ready to explode.
Even if Thor were foolish, he wouldn't, in the name of honor and justice, provoke a being as powerful as Zane, who could obliterate a civilization with a mere gesture, potentially turning him into an enemy of Asgard.
Heimdall, stationed on the Bifrost, also reacted sharply upon seeing Zane and his group appear. His eyes, capable of seeing through the Nine Realms, suddenly narrowed. His lips moved subtly as he immediately relayed the news of Zane's arrival to Odin in the palace.
Five years ago, Heimdall might have personally welcomed Zane. But now, with Zane's immense power, not to mention the formation of the Death God Alliance over the past five years, Heimdall knew it was beyond his authority to greet him alone.
Asgard might not fully know everything Zane had done over the past five years, but they were aware of the Death God Alliance's existence and Zane's role in the destruction of the Kree civilization.
In other words, Zane was now far beyond the reach of a mere gatekeeper like Heimdall, which is why he promptly informed Odin. Heimdall now felt deeply grateful for Odin's decision five years ago to form an alliance with Zane.
Had Zane not remained an ally of Asgard, things would be much different now.
