"Yes, I felt it too. We may have to assume the worst...the telepathic link that Cleo created between all the Briars and Thorns using her Greater Thought Communication Skill is gone. At best, she's been knocked unconscious...at worst, she's...," I trailed off with a grimace.

"N-no, that can't be, how...how could she have possibly been defeated!?"

"Well, she was weakened and exhausted after her battle against that Demon girl, that might have left her vulnerable. And even before the telepathic link went down, many of the Thorns had already been killed. And Vera was attacked too, the link went down right before she could tell us what happened.
