Bab 4: A New World

As the two entered the portals, they were greeted with the color green and brown. They looked around the place, before determining their whereabouts.

"We in a forest," Kell helpfully provided. Ian did not say a word as he looked at the two objects near them. On the ground were a sword and staff

"I think this is our weapon for a time," he said. Ian took the staff while Kell took the sword.

Giving his new weapon a practice swing, Kell gave his comment, "It does not feel good in my hand but it will work for now,"

Ian nodded, before giving his staff a swing too. Though it is apparent he is atrocious in it. "Let's get going. We should head towards the town before nightfall," he said, avoiding looking at his friend so he would not see his red face.

Judging from how the other boy holding his laughter, it did not work.

Thankfully, there is a road nearby with a sign planted nearby. While the sign is in different characters than they both used to, apparently the god also gave them the ability to read and hopefully understand the language of the world, or they will be screwed.

With the road as their guide, they spent 4 hours walking, most of it filled with Ian complaining and huffing.

"You should exercise more, bro," if looks could kill, Kell would be chopped into a hundred pieces at that exact moment.

Thankfully, their journey ended when they spotted a town. "So this is Thrine Town," Ian mussed.

The town is surrounded by high walls, probably about 4 to 5 meters long. Aside from the gate at the front, which he could see from their current position, there are also other roads leading to the town, implying the existence of other roads.

Currently, Ian was nervous, as he was not sure if they could enter like this or if they might need to pay to enter the town.

He still himself, as entering the town might be the hardest challenge they would face so far.

"Please sign here and here, and write your name," after the two finished, the guard gave them a token.

"This is the entry token. With this, you can stay inside the city for a month for free before you need to pay for it. Considering your youngster seemed to not be from around here, you likely will not have any money or not enough to spend for the day.

So, the town provided free housing but don't expect anything fancy. Aside from that, there will be some free food too, but similarly, it will be simple bread and soup.

Considering how you have some equipment, you likely want to become an adventurers. If so, the Adventure Guild is near the center of the city, about a few hundred meters from the free housing I just mentioned.

That is all I have to say. Have a nice stay in the town,"

The two dumbly nodded before walking into the town proper, still looking dumbfounded.

 "Well, that is easy,"

After some consideration, they went to the Adventure Guild first. As the guard had told them, the guild is easy to find, as the traffic of adventurers, judging from their equipment and weapons, in front of the building.

They entered the building, only to see the receptionist area packed with people. As they were about to find a less crowded counter, a tap on Kell's shoulder made him turn around.

He spotted the person, a young man who trembled nervously. "H-hello. a-are y-you n-newcomers w-wanting to be adventurers," the man asked.

As the two, Ian heard him earlier, nodded, the man showed them to an empty counter, "H-here is w-were s-someone c-could r-register and be-become new ad-adventurers," he told them.

Seeing nothing wrong, the two walked to the counter where they received a similar paper to the one they had signed earlier at the entrance.

"Ple-please sign this and fill in your information. After that, you will receive your adventure's badge," the two finished signing it easily.

After checking if everything was correct, the man gave them the adventure's badge, one that seemed to be colored in grey, akin to a rock.

"This is your adventurer's badge. You need it if you want to get paid after doing a commission. There are several levels, each corresponding to the adventurer's rank.

The ranks from bottom to the top are as follows, Gravel, Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Star, Moon, and Sun. Or if you want to make things simple, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, and SSS. You can only take commission according to your rank or you will be punished.

If you finish enough commission, you can get promoted. I will not tell you for now but here is a rulebook of the Adventure Guild. Read it as most information of the Guild is in there.

If you want to take a commission right now, the commission's board is right over there," he pointed to a place where it was so crowded, that one could throw a coin and hit multiple adventures in a single toss.

"Things are less hectic in the morning, it just most people like to take the night commission, where they needed to guard the commissioners. Those tend to pay a lot," the man explained.

"Okay. We are new here and just arrived, so we are going to rest for now," Ian told the man, who gave them an understanding nod.

Not saying another word, Ian pulled Kell away from the crowd, the oaf had wanted to charge into the crowd so he could look at the commission.

The people of the town were currently seeing a comical scene. A young man, probably in his 16, is currently pulling his much larger compatriot, the other boy, also looking around 16, pouting like a child who was caught stealing an apple.

They watched as the smaller boy dragged the larger boy to the 'free housing'. Though it did not look nice, the worn-down walls and the fact there were people hanging outside the place made it look like it was more of a slump.

Though, even though it looks like it needed serious repairs, the place itself is not bad for free lodging

The two changed their mind as they entered to see the place in question did not have any room, looking more like a hall with people lying on the floor, sleeping or playing cards.

The two sigh. Well, at least they have shelter.

-x-

Surprisingly, with how packed the place is, they were able to find a spot for themselves. Discounting the fact Kell has to fight two other people like cats fighting for territory.
