Bab 128: I'm not late, I'm as early as I could be

Isabelle cuddled Snowball close as they slowly rode through the streets of Nevremia.

Many citizens watched her procession through the city gates. Some bowed their heads reverently or shouted for joy. Others hurled curses or ignored her.

Most watched with neutral expressions and did nothing at all.

The air was oppressive.

Misery crushed in on them from all sides.

Nevremia smelled like disease and death, as if the entire city were suffering. The plague had ravaged the kingdom in the time they'd taken on the trip for Moonflowers.

She cuddled her kitten close and he looked up at her with a plaintive mew.

The carriage rolled to a stop in front of the palace proper.

She took a deep breath and braced herself for whatever chaos might await inside. She opened the door to the carriage and got out with Snowball cradled close to her chest.

Lyov slid out behind her and then helped Tenshi, then Alex and Phoenix.
