Bab 154: Chapter 153 "Pandora Lovegood's Legacy"

Skyler continued to elucidate, "This type of Rowan is somewhat akin to a unicorn. Only the most pure-hearted individuals can harvest it. A wand crafted from this wood is inherently well-suited for defensive magic. Legend has it that such a wand is among the very few capable of rivaling the Elder Wand in terms of power—a duo of wands, one excelling in attack and the other in defense, representing the extremes in the wands' power."

"Then, are you suggesting we cut off these branches?" Susan blinked, a tad perplexed as to why she hadn't known about Skyler's proficiency in wandcraft.

Skyler shook his head, "No," he replied, "I've merely brought you here to witness something and consider it an outing to strengthen our bonds. Furthermore, even if we were inclined to intercept these branches, I'm afraid it wouldn't be that simple. Take a look at what I've brought along..." Skyler produced a box from his suitcase containing oval-shaped black bugs.

"Rubber bugs?" Luna inquired with keen interest.

"Look above..." Skyler pointed to the wiggentrees adorned with emerald-green, palm-sized magical creatures resembling bark and twigs. "This place is called Bowtruckle Island, where many Bowtruckles are nurtured. It seems to be the legacy the esteemed Newt Scamander left to Hogwarts."

"It's Bowtruckles..." Luna murmured in a dreamy voice, her tone a soft whisper, and her eyes resumed their usual hazy and ethereal demeanor.

"Yes, if you wish to harvest those branches, you must first navigate the challenges these little creatures pose. They are the 'tree guardians' of the Rowan trees. Unrestrained harvesting may trigger their defensive response." Skyler paused and continued, "Despite their small and inconspicuous appearance, if attacked en masse by thousands of them, I daresay not many wizards could escape unscathed."

"Bowtruckles are quite timid!" Luna gently remarked, "So, when feeding them, be cautious not to startle them!" Saying this, she took a few earthworms from Skyler's hands and delicately placed them near the tree hole, tapping the pineapple tree gently.

A cute little Bowtruckle crawled out of the tree hole more than ten seconds later. It glanced timidly at Luna, then snatched a bug from her hand and swiftly retreated into the hole. After several back-and-forths, it eventually emerged from the cave and stood on Luna's palm.

"Success!" Luna exclaimed with a slightly excited tone. "You all should try touching it too!"

One by one, the girls cautiously stroked the branches of the little tree creature with their thumbs. Initially wary, they gradually let down their guard as Luna playfully enticed them with bugs.

Though they were wary of the Bowtruckle's presence, Luna was cheering for them and kept encouraging them not to be afraid of these pure creatures if they wanted to experience what Skyler had just specially prepared for them. Soon, they all mastered the art of interacting with the Bowtruckle thanks to Luna's patient teaching, each finding a tree hole to engage with the magical creature inside.

Skyler approached Luna and observed her happily playing with the Bowtruckle in her hand.

"It seems to really like you!" Skyler remarked with a smile.

"Well," Luna's smile radiated brightness, her lively eyes shining like never before. Her cheeks displayed a hint of blush, and her voice turned soft. "Thank you, Skyler. I truly appreciate getting to know you. It brings me a lot of joy..."

"Yes, me too." Skyler and Luna simultaneously glanced at the other girls. Though their expressions varied—some were thrilled, some were at ease, and some were eager—none were an exception in being deeply engrossed in their interactions with the Bowtruckles.

Skyler settled next to Luna, leaning on her shoulder, and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Luna, it's not just me; they all consider you a friend."

"If there's anything on your mind, you can talk to any of us; if you encounter any troubles, you can seek help from any of us. Even if you're simply bored, each of us is more than willing to chat with you—well, perhaps about the intriguing content of 'The Quibbler'..."

"We're friends, you know?" Skyler continued with a worried smile on his face.

"Friends..." Luna closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she spoke softly with a reverent expression.

After a moment, she looked at Skyler and displayed a radiant smile. "Yes, Luna, we are friends."

"I have another gift for you..." Skyler retrieved a piece of parchment from the suitcase space adorned with dense notes. "This is an heirloom your mother left for you. I want to formally present it to you."

"Ah... Mom..." Luna displayed an extremely intricate expression.

"This is your mother's final creation, a spell that she calls by the name of—'Centauri Perspicacia.' I've documented the entire spell and the correct method of execution in these notes. I believe this spell might grant insights into the thoughts and emotions of magical creatures, yet with the risk of being overwhelmed by the collective consciousness of the magical beings.

I am afraid your mother might have been disturbed by these beings… These are all the clues I could extract by deciphering her notes. It took a bit of effort to reconstruct the entire curse successfully. Now, there are some things to be mindful of for you to prevent such..."

Before Skyler could finish his sentence, Luna threw herself onto him, burying her head in Skyler's chest.

Luna wept.

When her mother passed away, she felt immense sorrow, but tears didn't fall.

After her mother's burial, her father returned to work, leaving her alone at home. She was frightened and bewildered, yet tears didn't come.

When attempting to cook for the first time, she accidentally burned her entire palm, her fingers swelling like sausages. The pain was excruciating, but still, tears didn't fall.

On the first day of school, her classmates labeled her as the "Crazy Girl," casting her into isolation and alienation. Despite feeling lonely and helpless, she resisted shedding tears.

As the semester progressed, her classmates escalated their cruelty, engaging in bullying and hiding her belongings. Faced with anger and helplessness, she still refrained from tears.

It's not that she possesses exceptional strength; rather, she struggles to convey her emotions.

Deep down, she yearns to be like other young wizards, to have her own circle of friends, facing challenges together as a united group.

Contrary to her seemingly indifferent exterior, she doesn't crave acceptance and friendship from others.

Now, the tears flow because she realizes she has finally found someone who cares about her—a place where she can release her pent-up emotions.

Skyler allows the young girl to embrace him silently, providing an outlet for her emotions.

When Skyler revisited the original work from his past life, the character's introduction on the train left a lasting impression. Ron's joke, comparing Goyle's face to a baboon's butt, stood out vividly in his memory.

Despite everyone in the carriage finding the joke amusing, Luna's laughter surpassed them all. She erupted into a series of sharp, hearty laughs, tears streaming down her cheeks. In her uncontrollable joy, she even dropped the magazine she held. At that moment, Ron couldn't help but wonder if Luna was mocking him.

In truth, Luna hadn't laughed genuinely in a long time. It marked the first instance she was embraced by a small, friendly circle, experiencing the warmth of companionship. This surge of camaraderie overwhelmed her, leading to an unbridled release of long-suppressed emotions.

Even though Skyler had known Luna for an extended period, witnessing Luna completely unleash her emotions was a new sight. Despite occasional glimpses of her emotions, Skyler had sensed Luna's reservations and hesitations. However, this time—

Luna finally liberated all her emotions, dismantling the defenses she had tightly secured around herself. Much like in the original narrative, it resembled a caterpillar breaking free from its cocoon, transforming into a butterfly, undergoing a rebirth.

"Thank you, Skyler! Thank you… Ever since my mother passed away, this is the first time I've cried on another man's chest other than my father's… I am sorry for…"

"Shhh… I am not going to blame you for it. Take all the time you need. Let it all out." Skyler gently caresses Luna's head, running his palm on her hair while the other hand keeps patting her back to comfort her.
