Midori could not help but gape in awe at Madam Matsumoto, who walked in on her in a set of elegant Western outfits that reminded Midori of a modern-time Empress of Japan.

The refined attire posed a stark contrast to her own simple kimono, making her feel like a little peasant girl fresh from the countryside.

"Midori-san."

Madam Matsumoto took a seat opposite Midori. With a languid movement, she set her expensive leather purse next to her sitting cushion.

"I am Kiyoshi-san's mother. We met at the Christmas banquet."

Midori gave her a brief nod.

"I remember. Good to see you, Madam."

Madam Matsumoto narrowed her eyes at her, taking in all visible details of Midori's appearance before she responded with a simple hum.

"I do not like to make small talk."

Madam Matsumoto opened her purse with a click and retrieved a thick envelope from within.

"Here is a thousand Yen. Please remove yourself from my son's life."
