"What should I do?" Fage asked himself inwardly. He was young, piloting the newly constructed seventeenth generation Dawn Mech, and not heavily involved in many battles. This was only his second apprenticeship battle in the Dawn Mech's cockpit.

In his first apprenticeship battle, he had defeated a superpower beast that was only about twenty-five meters in size. With the Dawn, he had executed a spectacular kill, his victory making the front page of the local news.

But during that battle, he didn't have to consider anything; the superpower beast had just appeared in the suburbs. He didn't have to ponder any extraneous factors. His sole focus was on how to swiftly and proficiently kill the adversary before him.

This second battle, however, presented him with a difficult choice: should he remain stationary to save the ten thousand people in the refuge behind him, or should he save the mother and daughter next to him?
