Bab 271: A Brutal Confession

In the Duke's palace,

Damien knocked on the door when he saw Eve vomiting again. She looked thinner, paler, her eyes exhausted and her face red by adding so much force in the vomiting.

She looked at his reflection in the mirror and slowly nodded her face.

He stood behind her, watching her through the same mirror. Her eyes trembling as if begging him to not ask anything. She knew, if he had an heir, he would not be needed anymore. She was hiding the presence of the child. But she was not getting rid of it.

Was she worried that he would try to kill the child? His eyes filled with foolish questions and he laughed at himself. Men become fools when it comes to love. He could ask her directly and get an answer yet he was punishing himself with these contemplations.

He picked up the towel and wiped her face when she was done. She leaned on his chest and closed her eyes.
