I've always been the epitome of perfection, both in my previous life and current life. It was as if I could never fail in anything I decided to do, be it sports, studies, martial arts in my past life, or the Immortal Cultivation aspects of my current life, at least in the later half of this life.
But deep down, I have vulnerabilities too. I'm afraid. Afraid that I won't be able to meet the expectations of those around me. Afraid that I won't be able to protect them when they need my protection the most.
I'm afraid that I'll lose everything I hold dear to myself. Afraid that I...I will lose my life. Many things have changed since I reincarnated into this world, except for this irrational fear that I'm afraid will consume me whole one day, and make me lose everything except for my life.
Because of that, I strive to become stronger than anyone. As strong as possible. So that I can not only protect my own life, but also everything I hold close to my heart.
So that I don't ever have to feel as helpless as I was back then. The only two times I truly felt like I had lost.
The faces of those people are carved deep inside of my mind, those mocking expressions that made me feel like a thousand needles were piercing my heart, like my very soul was being shredded to pieces.
*Rumble!*
*Crackle!*
Thunderclouds rolled and lightning danced in the dark, purple sky, the entire world engulfed in darkness with not a single sound except for the rolling thunder echoing throughout the world.
Shards of what seemed to be a glass barrier covering the entire world rained down like water in every corner of the world. These were the particles of the natural laws and the heavenly principles that governed the mortal world, which had been forcibly shattered now...to give a way for powers far exceeding the realm of mortal capabilities to descend down.
I don't want to lose again. I don't want to lose anything ever again. I don't want to - I don't want to die.
All the mortal beings, whether it be mere mortals with no extraordinary abilities, Demon Beasts with a vicious nature, or Immortal Cultivators with immense power, all had their breaths hitched in their throats, not daring to utter a single word as they watched the sky fall apart right before their eyes. A scene so magnificent yet terrifying.
Countless Immortal Cultivators from all walks of life gathered in the sky, armed with weapons and artifacts, chanting spells and preparing to unleash their divine abilities.
There was only one thing common among them; a hope for survival. If they worked together, there was a glimmer of hope for survival, and not just their survival, but the survival of every mortal being, the entire mortal world could be saved.
And this hope of survival was being reflected in their eyes, in which the back of a certain individual was visible.
But there was also a hint of fear in all of their eyes. If they failed, they would be consigned to eternal damnation.
Right in front of them stood an army of heavenly entities clad in divine robes and giving off an extremely powerful pressure, as if any move they make will cause the collapse of the mortal world. All of them had an impassive expression on their face, as if they did not care about the trillions of lives that they were about to take.
At that moment, a golden light descended down from beyond the heavens, signaling the arrival of more celestial beings. The very Immortal Gods worshipped by mortals, who would be the cause of the demise of all life and the destruction of this world.
So I will do everything in my power to avoid that outcome.
The divine light directly landed on a young man floating at the very front of all the Immortal Cultivators, facing the divine beings before him with closed eyelids.
He wore a silver white daoist robe inscribed with intricate Dharma patterns and Dao charms, and what seemed to be silver colored shoulder guards with dragons shaped on them were attached to the robe, giving him an oppressive, commanding presence.
His face was as if personally crafted by the goddess of beauty, with no flaws whatsoever. His long, jet black hair reached down to his waist, with a jade crown atop his head and his bangs resting on his forehead.
As Immortal Gods, far more powerful than the ones already present in the mortal world emerged from the divine light, countless expectant gazes fell upon the young man from behind, filled with hope.
At that instance, one of the Immortal Gods stepped forward, his Divine Sense sweeping across the entire continent they had landed in as a vast pressure descended down, causing all the Immortal Cultivators behind the young man to tremble.
"Barely over a thousand years old, and yet, you've already grown so powerful. Your talent far surpasses even of that unspeakable existence's. It'd be a waste of your potential if you die here. Leave this mortal world behind and come with us to the Upper Realm. Resources, status, and even countless worlds will be yours to govern over. With your talent, it won't be long before you join the ranks of Exalted Ones. If you want to, you can even bring your disciples and companions to the Upper Realm. Do not be stubborn. What is a mere mortal world compared to the vastness of the heavens?"
At his words, the young man slowly opened his eyes, coldness flashing by in his crimson red irises.
I won't die.
"Can I take all the trillions of living beings in the mortal world to the Upper Realm?"
He asked, directly staring into the eyes of the Immortal God who had just spoken previously, causing all the Immortal Gods to frown in displeasure.
"That is impossible."
"Then I'll have to decline your offer."
He said, without a hint of fear visible in his eyes.
I won't lose.
If he showed vulnerability at this point, then all of his past efforts would have been for naught.
"We're trying to give you a way out, but you still insist on clinging onto a hopeless situation. If that is the case, then so be it. Today, both you and this world shall perish under the divine might of my army of gods!"
All the divine beings' expressions turned fierce as their combined pressure descended upon the mortal world, threatening to tear it apart without giving any chance of retaliation.
But before it could completely destroy the heavenly principles, a giant finger of Divine Energy reached out, forcefully stopping the overwhelming pressure from shattering the world.
At this moment, time seemed to have frozen in place, every single person's eyes rooted on the giant finger, and then shifted down to the young man, pointing at the sky.
"You must have forgotten that I'm here as well." He said in a neutral voice, slowly bringing his finger and thumb close.
"And as long as I'm still here, the mortal world will not perish."
He gently flicked his finger, the giant finger in the sky imitating the same action.
*Swoosh!*
A terrifying gust of celestial wind rose up in the sky, spanning across countless miles as it directly wiped out the entire army of heavenly beings which had come down earlier!
Not again.
