Mrs. Long waved her kitchen knife. "No way. Brittany is so thin and small. David is tall and strong. Can Brittany beat him?"
Mrs. Woods took a step back. "Long, could you put down the kitchen knife before you speak?"
Mrs. Long looked at her from the corner of her eyes. "No, you're already holding the stick. How can I put down my kitchen knife?"
Mrs. Woods stomped her foot and threw the stick in her hand away. "I don't care. Anyway, this little slut hurt David's arm. She's from your family. You have to take out the money to help David go to the county town to see a doctor."
Mrs. Long sneered. "Do you want money? That's impossible."
Brittany stood not far behind Mrs. Long and quickly recalled her memories.
Mrs. Long was her mother-in-law. The reason why she was so fierce might have something to do with the death of her man. If she was not fierce, she would only be bullied in such a big family.
After Brittany got married, apart from the first few days when Mrs. Long was so sad because of the death of her eldest son that she did not pay much attention to her. Later on, she was not bad to her.
Mrs. Long had never scolded her. When the Rivers family scolded Brittany as a jinx, Mrs. Long even defended her. "Don't say it so harshly. Dave was already very sick, and the doctor couldn't cure him either. That's why they made every possible effort and let her come to marry Dave. Dave's death can't be blamed on her."
Compared to the Rivers family members who were full of malice, she was simply an angel.
At this moment, Brittany walked behind Mrs. Long and called out, "Mother."
Mrs. Long turned around and glanced at Brittany. Her expression changed drastically. "What happened to your neck? Your voice is also-"
Brittany's skin was fair. At this moment, there was a black mark on her slender neck.
"David Rivers molested me just now and even strangled me," Brittany said indifferently.
"He almost succeeded."
When Mrs. Long heard that, her two thick eyebrows raised up. She pointed her kitchen knife at David. "David Rivers, you pervert. Brittany is your sister-in-law! How dare you to have designs on her?"
David's expression darkened, but he didn't say anything.
Mrs. Long pointed at the tip of Mrs. Woods's nose. "You still want to hit Brittany? You still have the nerve to ask me for money?"
"Your David is worse than a beast. Look at how Brittany was pinched!"
"You should be the one giving money to Brittany. Brittany's neck was injured by David, that bastard. She needs to see a doctor."
She held a kitchen knife in one hand and spat on Mrs. Woods's face. Mrs. Woods was retreating step by step.
When Brittany heard Mrs. Long's words, she rolled her eyes slightly. "Mother is right. I'm injured like this. You should give me the silver coins."
Before Mrs. Woods could speak, she quickly said, "Give me an ounce of silver coins, and I can even help him heal his arm."
Mrs. Woods opened her mouth and started cursing, "Little slut, dream on. Even if I throw my money into the water, I won't give it to you."
"It's more than twenty miles from here to the county town," Brittany said slowly. "Even if you spend money to take a mule cart, it'll be dark when you reach the county town."
"Don't say that I'm scaring you. The longer it drags on, the harder it will be to treat that arm."
Mrs. Woods spat fiercely. "I'd be a fool if I believed you!"
But she didn't dare to delay any longer. She turned around and pulled David. "Let's go to town to see Doctor Elvin."
She didn't notice that she had pulled David's right arm, and David Rivers started to scream like a pig being slaughtered.
The mother and son went out while cursing.
Mrs. Long then turned to look at Brittany. "You really know how to treat his arm?"
