"Where am I" It was black all around, there was no floor and no ceiling, just Bian in an infinite vacuum of darkness. Well, he wasn't completely alone.
Three infinitely long pillars stretched from the depths below and faded into the void above, two off those pillars gave of a weak aura, almost like they were dying.
The last pillar was completely devastated, creases and marks marred it surface. It remained mainly intact but gave off no life aura, it was the body pillar and it was dead.
Bian floated to the destroyed pillar, the piston within had ceased all movements, making the structure no different from ordinary stone. Heartache and gloom sank into his heart as he placed his palm on the pillar.
His thinking and sense of self grew still as the pillars of soul and spirit slowly shut down, the soul and spirit could not survive without the body.
"Is this the end?" Bian said spitefully, he drifted over to the soul pillar where he could feel the declining pulse of the piston. Unlike before when he could not approach the pillars, now he could come into direct contact with them.
Placing his palm on the soul pillar, he felt a strange jolt travel through his body as he was somehow connected to the pillar. The tempo of the piston within the soul pillar sped up, gradually surpassing its original rhythm even while he was healthy.
Bian felt the intensity of his focus and retention sky-rocket. His memory, which was well developed thanks to the use of mental point targeting, surpassed human limits once his palm came into contact with the pillar.
He felt so much clarity at this moment, all his past mistakes came into play, like puzzles that were solving themselves.
"So that was why they were angry. Humans aren't logical beings at all, I have to not only consider problems rationally but also emotionally" Bian realized that even in the alliance were humans were quite cruel to one another, they still had human wants and needs. Such as the need to feel important, to feel needed, and to feel special.
"Executioner blue, judging by the color code, there are definitely more executioners. The blue pillar caused by his death should have alerted the others and also might have made them stronger. This is gonna be a pain to deal with" Bian reviewed his knowledge with his new found clarity.
After a while he floated towards the spirit pillar and placed a palm on it, the hyper-activity of his spirit pillar brought with it inner peace and heightened intuition. Bian knew what he had to do, well it was the only thing he could do.
Once he took his hands off the soul pillar, its strength began to fade. The same for the spirit pillar, he had to drift between the two pillars to keep them functioning.
"But for how long?"
...
"Where are we going!" Zhou Yumei yelled at the top of her lungs. Unfortunately, her voice failed to reach the person atop the golden growler.
She had been sent to a desolate area of the sanctuary and had been trapped in the desert shelter for so long. She felt relief when Man Tian came and offered her a way out of the desert after he checked on something.
Scared of being left behind, she followed him atop the golden growler. She was amazed by the mysterious beast which could grow as large as a mountain in seconds, but what was even more amazing was Man Tian, who could beat her Little Orange like he was swatting a fly.
Little orange was her only source sustenance in the desert and sometimes it even brought back sacred-blood meat for her to eat so she knew how strong it was. Little orange almost froze to death fighting a tiny fairy, but Man Tian managed to subdue the creature.
Everything was going alright until they met that mysterious man in white who wanted to harm little orange, she knew Man Tian was very strong so that taoist man should have been stronger because Man Tian ran away even before that weird blue pillar descended on him.
"My friend, I had an argument with him" Man Tian suddenly spoke causing Zhou Yumei to perk up her ears.
"When I grabbed his arm, a mark was left by one of my beast souls. I felt the mark dissipate, that only happens when the marked target dies, but that is impossible.
For me to have felt it, he must still be on the second sanctuary and nothing in the sanctuaries could have scratched him, talk less of killing him"
"So you can talk... I mean maybe your friend is uhm.. getting back at you because of the argument" Zhou Yumei was still stuck with Man Tian until he took her to a shelter. Courtesy demanded she should not annoy him at this moment at least.
The golden growler with it's incredible speed rushed towards a desolate shelter. After they arrived, Man Tian directly jumped from it's massive frame, kicking up a debris and dust with his landing. The shelter was in utter devastation, building had cleaved by what appeared to be a thread.
"What happened here" Zhou Yumei who was riding little orange asked in apprehension. This was the largest shelter she had seen and the destruction was massive and unnerving. Blood stains littered the ground, but there was no body in sight. Just utter devastation and very few glittering crystal balls of different colours.
Man Tian watched the orange cat, which was as big as a bear, run around with Zhou Yumei. He felt there was no need to warn her, as whatever could have killed Bian would be a catastrophe that no one could stop. Well that was if he was dead.
Walking around the shelter, he got closer to the location where he last felt him alive. The shelter was utterly devastated, with building missing large chunks, or wholly turned to dust, the ground had become uneven from a force of massive impact, but the thin marks that went through all the materials unabated were the most unnerving of all.
"It can't be" His pupils dilated as he saw a familiar figure sprawled on the floor, covered in a pool of his own blood.
Man Tian walked up to Bian, his cool jade body had become cold, no different from that of a corpse. He checked for a pulse or even for a heartbeat but it was silent. Bian was dead.
There was a mark that travelled from above his eyebrow to his head, his brain was visible from that crevice. The slash was the same as those around that caused a good portion of devastation to the shelter.
"Damn It!" An earthquake once his fist reached the ground. His voice was full of sorrow, but his eyes were calm and clear. He would find whoever did this and make them pay.
"Make that curse for two, the stupid teleporter has been destroyed along with everything else here." Zhou Yumei arrived, travelling on top of Little Orange. She spared a glance to Bian's corpse and felt it was a pity, so young and handsome, no doubt a peerless talent, yet here in the sanctuaries, even demi-gods could die.
"Lets go" Man Tian picked up Bian's body, the least he could do was take it back to his family. He felt a little bit of regret that he wasn't around but truthfully he knew, if he was here he would also be dead.
Whatever could kill Bian was not something limited by the second sanctuary, it definitely wasn't something that could be stopped by numbers that was for sure. After collecting all the life essence around Man Tian went atop the golden growler.
The ride back to moment shelter was a quiet one, once they got near the spirit shelter Zhou Yumei couldn't wait to get back to the alliance. She was trapped in a location where a strong spirit, who had been sealed, prevented her from going back, Man Tian did not kill the spirit claiming it would only free him from the constraints.
As she rushed into the hall with little orange, the first thing she noticed was a shiny egg with electricity coiling around it. Then her world spun as she was flung into the air by little orange, a cold saber light tore through where she had been a moment ago as little orange jumped and caught her mid air.
"Who are you?" A handsome man garbed in a white fencing suit asked, his facial feature looked out of this world which told her that it was a spirit. Little orange dropped her and hissed while arching its back.
"Stop!" Man Tian entered the hall, he was surprised to see a spirit there and the silver fox was evolving already.
"Welcome Man Tian, Bian informed me of your arrival but not of this woman." Fencing spirit put away his epee, he bowed respectfully and went back to stand beside the egg.
"Who are you and how do you know Bian"
"I am Fencing spirit, Bian is my master"
"Are you saying you are a spirit and you currently belong to Bian?" Man Tian asked with fervor.
Fencing spirit was a little bit confused but he still answered his question "Yes, Bian and Han Yan took down my shelter together"
"But that's impossible once a person dies, their beast souls and the spirits they conquered die alongside them" Man Tian mumbled.
He went outside and brought back Bian, whom he had covered in a white blanket. He placed him down gently on the ground. The white blanket had patches of red already from the several cuts on his body which were to numerous to count.
Opening up his face he demanded an explanation from Fencing spirit. "If you really do belong to Bian as you claim, care to explain how you are still alive"
Fencing spirit was beyond shocked when he noticed the body, that without a doubt belonged to Bian. He was also confused as to why he was still alive.
"You can't be serious, since your friend has died then this spirit is obviously an imposter" Zhou Yumei said, she was still a bit angry that Fencing spirit had attacked her first before asking questions.
"Maybe he isn't an imposter" In the qigong Man Tian uses, The Heaven's way for a man, there was a story about a king who could not be killed because his soul would run away to another body.
If Bian's soul was still alive maybe all hope wasn't completely lost after all. But what could he do, was there any way to bring back a man from the dead?
