Bab 33: Desolate Desert Part - 1

With the sun reaching its highest point in this scorching desert, where there were no shadows to rest in, Erik and Violet could be seen shifting silently. They occasionally glanced around their surroundings, looking for signs of monsters.

Since they started walking through the dungeon, they had not encountered any life since they entered and started walking around the place.

Violet looked at Erik, who seemed unaffected by the scorching sun in the dungeon.

"Don't you feel hot?"

"No, I'm not hot. Are you overdoing it to the point of wasting your magical power on an umbrella?" Erik replied, a bit puzzled.

A puzzled expression appeared on Violet's face. She couldn't believe what she had just heard.

How was it possible for Erik not to feel the heat?

If it weren't for the umbrella she had conjured up, she was sure she would be crawling exhausted on the hot sand.

"You really don't feel hot?" She asked again.

Erik shook his head. The heat really didn't affect him at all, and he preferred not to feel hot because it was the worst thing that could happen to him.

How come there are people who like summer? That's the season he hates the most.

Imagine being sweaty and sticky all day, and the nights would be hell if you didn't have air conditioning or a fan; you have to sleep practically naked.

But the only good thing about summer is going to the beach or the pool because you get to see beautiful women in bathing suits.

Otherwise, summer is the worst time of the year.

At that moment, while they were deep in thought, the sand began to vibrate slightly.

They both stopped immediately to check if it was vibrating.

"Did you feel that?" Erik asked to make sure he was the only one who felt the slight vibration.

Violet attended, confirming that she too felt the slight vibration. In an instant, her face took on an absolute seriousness as she began to conjure her spell.

At the same time, Erik quickly coated his spear with End Energy, preparing for the monster's imminent appearance.

The ground began to shake violently, giving way to an imposing shadow that slowly emerged. It revealed the figure of a giant scorpion with a wingspan of about three meters.

Erik wasn't going to wait for the monster to emerge fully. He rushed towards it, thus preventing the situation from becoming even more complicated.

Without taking his eyes off the monster, Erik spoke earnestly.

"Violet, try to slow its movements."

Violet was already prepared and didn't take long to conjure the spell. "[Crista's Glacial Chain]"

Several chains of ice appeared beneath the giant scorpion, restricting its mobility.

The giant scorpion was just a loud, angry scream, feeling restricted by Violet's spell.

Perfect...

Watching as they restrained the monster, Erik concentrated much of his strength on his legs. He lunged with even more speed, kicking up a large dust cloud. He was on top of the scorpion in less than ten seconds, struggling to free itself from the bindings.

Arching his body back, Erik took a deep breath, transferring all his strength to his arms, causing them to swell and the veins to bulge.

He swung his spear with all the strength gathered in his arms.

The spear descended with such speed that the human eye could not see anything but a thin, colorless line, which was the manifestation of the End Energy that was imbued in the spear.

Bang!

A loud crack echoed in the desolate desert as the spear made contact with the scorpion's hard shell, causing monsters miles away to become alert.

"Shit..." Erik cursed as his hands felt numb from the attack he launched.

Although he used all his physical strength in the attack, he only managed to break the scorpion's shell. In short, the scorpion hadn't received any damage.

Instead, the attack only irritated him.

As it landed on the scorpion's body, Erik frowned. He couldn't believe that the attack, in which he had used all his physical strength, had landed squarely on the scorpion's shell.

Which is the hardest part of the monster!

"Fuck, why am I so unlucky?" Erik exclaimed in frustration.

He wanted to launch another attack immediately, but he had spent too much time on the previous attack, and his hands were cramping up.

Well... let's try this fire I had earlier... Erik thought as he concentrated on his hands, summoning the "Flames of Helheim" he had obtained as a reward when he rose through the ranks.

A black fire with purple hues began manifesting in his palm, emanating an intense cold.

He stopped covering the spear with End Energy and began to cover it with the "Flames of Helheim."

The whole process took no more than five seconds.

Seeing how the spear was enveloped in the dark fire with purple tones and now emitted a cold aura, Erik prepared to strike again and finish off the scorpion.

But just before he could do so...

His senses warned him to back up, and as he did so, he saw a stinger just inches from his eyes. He could even make out the drop of venom on the tip of the stinger.

Erik archived his body backward with a fantastic reaction speed, moving a few centimeters away from the stinger.

In that small space, he placed the spear in front of him.

Clang!

The sound of clanging metal echoed through the air as the stinger made contact with the spear. The force of the scorpion's attack sent Erik flying until he landed next to Violet.

Erik stood up, shaking off the accumulated dust on his shirt. He looked at Violet, who was still holding the scorpion.

"Violet, deactivate the spell. Don't expend any more magical power."

Violet let transfer magic power to the spell, letting out a small sigh of exhaustion.

She had used more magical energy than she had thought.

Violet looked at Erik, whose spear was now engulfed in a dark fire with purple hues.

"What do we do now?" She asked, preparing to begin the next spell.

Erik looked at her momentarily, then returned to the scorpion, whose stinger tip was frozen.

He said calmly.

"Hmm, prepare to cast a spell in an unprotected space," He indicated, pointing to the vulnerable area.

Violet assisted as she understood Erik's indication. She began preparing her next spell and continued.

"How do you plan to limit his movements? I can't cast two spells at once."

Erik didn't answer right away; he sketched a smile as he let the End Energy flow from his core, coursing through his veins all the way to his hands.

"[Chaining Curse]" With a smile, he activated the ability; now that he had more energy, he didn't feel the weight when he used it against the giant spider.

Instantly, a series of portals opened around the scorpion, from which ebony-colored chains began to emerge.

Ching! Ching! Ching!

The chains that emerged from the numerous portals quickly surrounded the scorpion.

The scorpion cried out a rage that echoed throughout the desolate desert.

Violet watched all this in awe, marveling at the portals and chains that held the scorpion.

Besides, she doesn't remember seeing this ability when Erik used it against the massive spider in the dungeons where David and his group betrayed them.

What is it? I don't sense any trace of magical power in it... She thought to herself, with many questions on her mind.

"Violet, don't lose your concentration," Erik reminded her, snapping her out of her thoughts.

She shook her head to concentrate on conjuring her spell. In front of her, a magic circle appeared, and a vast ice tip emerged.

"[Ice crystal tip]"

The ice tip shot out quickly, generating friction in its trajectory toward the scorpion, struggling to free itself from Erik's ability.

Boom!

A large cloud of dust rose as the spell contacted the scorpion, followed by a loud, piercing scream.

The large cloud of dust began to disappear slowly, exposing the lifeless scorpion. A small path of green blood was created in the sand beneath the scorpion's corpse.

[You have defeated a D Rank Scorpion Titan.]

[Monsters - rank D, ten times; incomplete (1/10)]

[Level up!]

Erik scanned the notification window before him and realized they had defeated the vast scorpion.

He turned his gaze to Violet, who was dusting her body.

"Shall we continue or prefer to rest for a bit?" Erik asked.

"Let's keep going. I don't think I can take this heat for long," Violet replied, creating a new ice umbrella before heading towards the monster to extract the mana stone.

Erik also headed towards the monster. She was watching as Violet extracted the mana stone.

"What was that about the chains you used earlier?" Violet asked curiously; she had wanted to ask since the Hobgoblin dungeon.

Erik did not answer; he just gave her a small smile, not intending to say anything related to his energy or the system.

Receiving no answer, Violet decided to change the question.

"What about that fire that engulfed your spear?"

But once again, Erik did not answer, keeping the same smile.

Seeing this, Violet decided not to ask more, knowing she would not get an answer, although she was dying of curiosity.

Besides, they are not close enough to tell their secrets.

After extracting the mana stone, they continued deeper into the dungeon.
