Bab 78: At Peak Power
Douglas Bullet's body was sent hurtling through the air, leaving a lengthy trail in its wake as it crashed to the ground. Gasping for breath, Bullet struggled to rise to his feet after enduring a punishing barrage of blows.
"Is this the showdown of the world's mightiest?" Eustass 'Captain' Kid, wounded and sprawled on the ground, wore an expression of disbelief. He had regarded Charlotte Katakuri as a pinnacle of strength, but witnessing the clash between Whitebeard and Bullet shattered that perception, revealing even greater power on the horizon. The skirmishes among the supernovas in this battle seemed trivial in comparison. Kid realized he couldn't even withstand a single blow from Katakuri, a former Sweet Commander of the Big Mom Pirates.
"We've got a long road ahead," Killer muttered, his voice tinged with a sense of realization and resignation. The day's events had humbled them deeply. Once hailed as supernovas, rising stars of the Grand Line, they now felt their diminished strength keenly.
"Even Bullet is being overwhelmed, and Whitebeard has truly returned to his prime," Jack muttered anxiously, his brow beaded with sweat as he observed Whitebeard's resurgence. He knew that during the Summit War of Marineford, his boss Kaido had attempted to seize advantage of Whitebeard's weakened state. Though the attempt had failed, it had sown seeds of enmity, and Whitebeard's resurgence boded ill for them.
"You're indeed the strongest, Whitebeard!" Bullet exclaimed in awe, his voice tinged with excitement. His muscles bulged, and his aura surged like a tidal wave as he charged forward with the force of a rampaging bull.
"Bullet, aren't you going to unleash your powers?" Whitebeard chuckled, his weathered face creased with amusement as he met Bullet's charge head-on. With a thunderous clash of fists, the ground trembled, sending shockwaves rippling through the battlefield.
As the dust settled, Whitebeard raised his arm once more, a ball of radiant energy forming at his fist. Another explosion rent the air as the force of his attack struck Bullet with devastating force.
"Don't give up!" Bullet roared defiantly, attempting to shield himself from the onslaught. But even his formidable physique faltered against the overwhelming power of Whitebeard's assault.
With a resounding thud, Bullet was sent hurtling through the air like a projectile, crashing into the earth in a cloud of dust.
"Argh!" Bullet groaned, battered and bruised, struggling to rise once more. But before he could gather his bearings, he sensed approaching footsteps. Gazing up defiantly, he saw a figure emerging from the swirling dust, drawing nearer with each step.
It was none other than Whitebeard himself who stood before Bullet, his imposing presence causing Bullet's heart to race with trepidation. Despite Bullet's past as a member of the Roger Pirates, he couldn't help but feel the weight of Whitebeard's sheer might as the older man closed in.
With a grunt, Bullet retreated several steps, his expression darkening with a mix of fear and frustration. He had once harbored ambitions of surpassing Whitebeard to claim the title of the world's strongest, but now, faced with the reality of Whitebeard's overwhelming power, he found himself faltering.
"BULLET!" Whitebeard's voice reverberated in his ears, snapping Bullet out of his inner turmoil. As he looked up, he was met with the chilling gaze of his opponent, a fist charged with formidable energy poised to strike.
Cursing under his breath, Bullet attempted to evade the incoming blow, but Whitebeard's movements were too swift. The impact of the punch was immense, sending shockwaves through Bullet's skull and rendering him powerless to resist.
With a deafening boom, Bullet was sent hurtling to the ground, the sheer force of the impact causing the earth to rupture and form a deep crater upon impact. Blood streamed down his face, leaving him battered and broken, a pitiful sight to behold.
"DAMN IT!" Bullet bellowed, his pride wounded as he struggled to rise once more. But no matter how he fought against Whitebeard's grasp, he found himself utterly subdued, pinned to the ground by the older man's unyielding strength.
The humiliation cut deep, a bitter reminder of his own inadequacy in the face of Whitebeard's overwhelming power. Despite his best efforts, he remained trapped beneath Whitebeard's iron grip, his struggles proving futile against the indomitable might of his adversary.
As the onlookers watched in disbelief, their initial shock giving way to bewilderment, Hawkeye's voice cut through the tension like a blade. His words served as a sobering reminder of the vast gap in strength between Bullet and Whitebeard, despite Bullet's formidable reputation as a former member of the Roger Pirates.
