While Kitty was active with the X-Men, Max was not idle either. He continued to develop his abilities.
He was a mercenary before crossing over, with a simple goal of completing each mission and surviving. But after obtaining the Door-Door Fruit ability, his mind was filled with endless possibilities. The more abilities he gained, the more he wanted, leading to a never-ending quest for more.
Initially Max planed to speed up the integration of Juggernaut's genes but his focus later shifted to The Multiverse Portal that can be opened to other worlds.
It occurs to him due to the Sentinel plan and the need to reverse the future. The principles of multiverse travel were numerous, and he didn't fully understand how he transmigrated in the first place, but he knew one thing: Wormholes.
Wormholes, or space-time wormholes, could achieve time-space transfer or time travel. But how to create one?
"You're studying wormholes? Why?" Viper asked, surprised by Max's interest in wormhole theory. "I thought you'd be more focused on the gene gate."
"My abilities has endless possibilities. I want to see if I can create a wormhole," Max replied.
"A wormhole? Do you want to teleport or travel through time?" Viper inquired.
"Why not both? Believe me, there are parallel universes, more than one," Max stated.
"How do you know this?" Viper asked curiously.
Max remained silent, but Viper could tell he knew something. Despite trying to uncover Max's background, Viper had only learned about his encounters with Sonia, John, Lorna, and others. He remained a mystery.
"In theory, a wormhole is like a space-time tunnel connecting distant times and spaces. It's like a vortex in the sea, fleeting but omnipresent. It's created by fluctuations in matter and energy. The vortex makes distant local spaces very close. To create a wormhole, you must understand black holes and white holes," Viper explained.
"I've heard of black holes, but what are white holes?" Max asked, feeling a headache coming on.
"Simply put, black holes are gravity, while white holes are the opposite. You can think of them as push and pull. But I have to warn you, wormholes are unstable, and even if they are stable, the radiation frequency during your journey will be very high. You'll be scorched by X-rays and gamma rays," Viper cautioned.
"I'm not concerned about that. Juggernaut's genes and my self-healing factor should keep me alive," Max asserted confidently.
"May I ask why you've suddenly taken an interest in this?" Viper inquired.
Max simply smiled and turned to leave.
Retreat?
Viper pondered the significance of such a retreat. Under what circumstances would Max choose to retreat, especially when the threat to the world was imminent? Could it be...
Shaking off the thought, Viper decided not to delve further into Max's motives.

Black holes and white holes, space distortion, and gravity—concepts reminiscent of the double doors and Flight theory—captured Max's attention. Over the following days, he delved into experimentation in this domain, immersing himself in related literature.
Drawing from his comprehension of gravity and the principles of the double doors, Max entertained the idea of crossing through space using similar methods.
He began with black holes. Like doors, black holes induced spatial distortions. The key difference lay in the stability of man-made doors. Max reasoned that destabilizing the door's structure would intensify its distortion.
A door within a door—the very concept sparked his curiosity. While a single door boasted stability, what if another door was introduced? The clash between the two structures could potentially amplify distortions. And if necessary, further stacking could exacerbate the disruption.
But first, the stable framework had to be destabilized.
"Any updates?" Max inquired as he noticed Kitty and Esme returning.
Kitty shook her head, disappointment evident in her expression.
"No word from Professor X. It seems there aren't enough Mutants at the safe house to warrant a transfer. We're at a standstill for now," Esme reported.
Esme continued, "The speed of our rescue is far behind the speed of capture, not to mention that the safe house has more than one location, and we are not close to that area."
"Then let's continue like this."
With no news, they decided to wait. Max was immersed in his studies of the gate, devoting almost all his time to it. Lauren had been staying in his room these days.
As time passed, Shadowcat's appearances on TV became more frequent, covering almost the entire United States. However, there was still no news of Professor X.
But when Max successfully created a black hole, he didn't worry much about Professor X. If The Multiverse Portal was successful, why not use it to escape the end of the world? He could take the people he cared about to another world and start anew. Kitty was still by his side, and even if Professor X attempted to alter the future, Max wasn't concerned. If they left with someone, reversing the future would not be an issue.
A black hole and a white hole were like coordinates for two points. Just a few days after Max studied the white hole, he heard some news that left him somewhat incredulous.
"What did you say?"
"Sentinels have appeared."
Kitty, Blink, and Esme stood before Max, conveying the surprising information.
