I don't know if it was psychological, but the bones in my left leg started to throb with sharp pain.

Enna Clark broke out in a fine layer of cold sweat on her forehead. She tried to shift and sit up, a movement so simple yet it took her a full three minutes to complete. Every slight movement of her left leg was excruciatingly painful, and by the time she had managed to stand up, the shirt on her back was soaked with sweat.

The effects of the ether had just worn off, and remnants of the drug were still in her bloodstream. When she first stood up, she felt so dizzy that she almost bumped into the discarded materials piled nearby.

Luckily, she steadied herself just in time to avoid making any noise.

She glanced at her watch. It had been over two hours since she left her house, and she had no idea what was happening outside or whether the housekeeper had carried out the tasks she had assigned him.
