"What?" His friend's eyes widened at him in shock. "He wanted you to do what?" He questioned him again, probably doubting if he had heard him correctly the first time.

But Damon knew his friend understood him perfectly. He merely could not believe what he said to him. But how could he blame him?

Truthfully, he also found it hard to comprehend whatever possessed his dear friend, Mr. McLarren, to consider him for the part.

"Jimmy is dying. And he picked me to become the guardian of his only granddaughter." He repeated, hoping if he said it out loud, over and over, it would finally make sense.

Nonetheless, only Jimmy knew his reasons. This time, he could only conclude that everyone was right about him. His old friend was quite an eccentric man.

He could not fathom what the older man had seen in him to think he would be fit to care for his grandchild. He was a busy man who had no business raising a child.
