NOTHING.

The cabinet was empty.

Well, not empty, I suppose. Just a group of dusty fake flowers someone piled on top of one another. The years of not being used had coated their petals with dust so thick their colors were barely visible.

The entire crew of us released a deep breath and swept away all the momentum with the click of the officer turning off his flashlight.

Lily turned to each of us, her expression questioning. "What did you guys think she stored in there?"

Detective Anderson laughed. "In this town, you can never be too sure."

Lily shook her head, and her shoulders deflated. I used the opportunity to bring her close to my chest and hold her tightly. She belonged there, and I had no plans to let her go. I’d hold her like this every day for the rest of our lives. She would have to learn the intricate delicacies of real estate law, and I supposed I’d learn how to do something with flowers.
