"But you're a doctor, you should know when your wife is fertile," I murmured, struggling to pronounce the word "wife" without feeling a weight on my chest.

"Lia, you are the only woman I have ever mated with," Jordan confessed, and I started to feel a bit angry because he was trying to deny his wife's pregnancy.

"But you told me you would mate with her, didn't you?" I asked, feeling a mix of emotions.

"Yes, and I haven't," Jordan responded, still holding my hand. I glanced at his fractured arm and felt tempted to ask what had happened, but I resisted the urge.

"Please, go back and talk to them," Jordan said earnestly. "They seem to have a negative perception of the city, and I was just trying to reassure them and explain how things work here," he added, his voice tinged with amusement as he giggled. "I also installed an app that would teach them how to read."
