At exactly 6:30 p.m., the sun had set, casting a chill over the beach. I shivered and turned to Jenna. "We should go inside," I suggested, already feeling the cold seeping into my bones.

"Yeah," Jenna murmured, her voice barely audible. "I miss my mom," she added softly as we began folding up the beach mat.

"Maybe you should go see her tomorrow," I proposed, trying to offer some comfort. "You can stay with her for a while and come back to the island whenever you're ready."

Jenna shook her head and forced a smile. "I'll stay here with you. When you decide to go back to your husband..."

"Jenna, please," I interrupted, not wanting her to bring up that topic. She closed her mouth and fell silent. I started to walk away while my faceless bodyguards gathered our belongings from the small beach birthday party, trailing behind me.
