Bab 67: S-Class Talent (Part 1)
Fire Dog was unprepared for the sudden appearance of the ball. It reacted only when the ball approached.
Luckily, the first-speed ball was not very fast. Fire Dog raised its left front and back legs, allowing the ball to slip smoothly underneath.
Two baseball pitching machines simultaneously launched balls, with the barrels occasionally rotating to change the direction of the shots.
After about a minute of dodging, Fire Dog became more accustomed to the trajectory of the balls. Its expression became more relaxed, and it even started to playfully make subtle movements to dodge the balls just before they hit.
Riley watched with satisfaction. Such evasive maneuvers required a combination of reaction speed and dodging skills.
However, Riley didn't bring Fire Dog here today to train its dodging skills. Seeing that Fire Dog had no problems with the first-speed balls, he stood up and adjusted both pitching machines to the second speed.
The first-speed balls were approximately at 3m/s, while the second speed was 5m/s.
The room was only a short distance of a dozen meters, which meant that Fire Dog had to dodge two balls coming from different directions every 3 seconds or so.
At the second speed, Fire Dog appeared less agile. It would just dodge one ball when another was already coming towards it.
With such an intense firing rate, Fire Dog couldn't avoid being hit by the balls a few times.
Baseballs come in hard and soft varieties, and this indoor training baseball was soft, made of rubber, hollow, and didn't cause pain when it struck the body.
After about a minute, Fire Dog was hit a total of 5 times by the balls.
At this point, Riley pressed the red button next to him, and the baseball pitching machines came to a stop.
"Bark?"
Fire Dog tilted its head in confusion, looking at its Beast Tamer.
Why did it stop? It hadn't had enough fun yet.
Riley came over, crouched next to Fire Dog, and removed the weighted ring from its right front leg, smiling as he said, "We're not here to play this time. I came to see how your training has been going these past few days and to test your maximum speed."
"Bark!"
Upon hearing this, Fire Dog used its hind legs to prop itself up and patted its chest with its recently freed right front leg. It was determined to show its Beast Tamer what it was capable of!
Seeing Fire Dog's enthusiastic spirit, Riley couldn't resist but pat its head and said, "Go for it."
Fire Dog, filled with determination, rushed to Riley's backpack, pulled out seven pairs of sunglasses, hesitated for a moment, and selected a pair of emerald green triangular sunglasses to wear.
"Bark!"
It returned to its original spot, nodding solemnly in Riley's direction.
Riley understood that Fire Dog was about to give it everything it had.
"Go for it," Riley encouraged once more, and then he activated the second speed mode on the baseball pitching machine.
As soon as the weighted ring was removed, Fire Dog immediately sprang into action. Its speed was now on a different level, and the balls shot at it in the second-speed mode posed no real threat. It easily dodged them.
Two minutes later, Riley adjusted the baseball pitching machine to the third speed mode.
In the third speed mode, the ball's speed doubled, reaching 10m/s.
Even at this increased speed, Fire Dog managed to dodge every single ball.
Riley was already proud of Fire Dog's progress, but witnessing it firsthand filled him with even more satisfaction.
Two minutes later, Riley once again increased the machine's speed.
To the fourth speed mode.
The speed went from 10m/s to 20m/s.
