“Hey, how was work?” I asked, pouring myself a glass of bourbon. After sessions with Lou, I always felt better about washing the time down my throat. It was never enough to get drunk, just to sip while I relaxed. I called Carrigan, wanting to hear her voice after the long day. Mentioning her to Lou had helped plant the need in my chest.

“A long, long day. Just always something. But I’m glad to be home, and off my feet, that’s for sure. What about you? How was the app work?”

Carrigan’s voice made my heart sing. It was weird to feel this way for someone for the first time in years. I hadn’t had a serious girlfriend since college. Carrigan had said it’d been a while for her, but I completely understood because I was in the same boat. I hadn’t kissed someone in so long, and I’m glad she had been honest about not being ready. I didn’t plan on making her upset, uncomfortable, or anything unpleasant. She didn’t have to go out with me, but there she was.
