"Hurry up, recruits! We're almost at the first test." All of the applicants were following the instructors now that they had there teams formed. They were told that the first tests were going to be held elsewhere and that was where they were heading. Everyone seemed to be conversing with their groups catching up with old friends or meeting new ones but all of them seemed to be getting along pretty well. All except the group in the back consisting of Mill, Lua, Karl, and Darren.
"I can't believe you broke into someone's house and forgot their name." Karl turned to Mill with a shocked look on his face. Mill continued to walk and responded without turning.
"I keep telling you I didn't break in. The door wasn't locked to begin with and how in the world was I supposed to know that some broken down building with a surprisingly clean room would end up being a random person's home." Mill remembered walking into the building and just opening a door. There was no process of breaking in so he felt he wasn't in the wrong.
"That doesn't mean that you can just waltz in without checking! What kind of idiot just finds an empty room and falls asleep in it!" Lua was very annoyed by this point. She came here to finally enter Golden Lion but met the man that never wanted to see again. " I can't believe that I was placed in this dumb group."
"I was just trying to be nice, Lua. And you looked like you wanted to be in a group so I invited you into ours. I didn't know that you and Mill already had bad blood. I mean that you had a problem with Mill." Darren was trying to calm Lua down so that the group would actually be able to work together when the time comes even if that meant lying about his reason for inviting Lua into the group. I mean that fact that she was all alone was part of it but it was manly because she fit perfectly into one of his fantasy groups so he needed her in their group.
"We're here!" The resounding voice of Instructor Ophis came from the front of the group. The applicants came to a stop in front of a large building made of some kind of metal. Though other than being made of metal the building itself was pretty basic. It was just a giant cube without any sort of variation anywhere to be seen on it. Instructor Ophis walked up to the cube and placed her hand on it causing a giant hole to appear in it. "Right this way." Ophis motioned for the applicants to enter so they did.
"They couldn't have tried to make this place a bit more extravagant." Lua said as she looked the metal cube up and down. "They must not really care about this test thing that much." Lua was visibly disappointed in the structure of the building.
"I know what you mean. They have someone like me here and they don't even have a testing site that can match my future fame." Karl agreed with Lua and smiled at her and Lua returned with a smile.
"Just get over it you two. What does its appearance have to do with the difficulty of the test? Let's just get in and get the first test over with." Mill cut the two off before they could begin to complain anymore. Now was the time to focus and steel his nerve. The first test was soon to begin.
As he was nearing the entrance Mill met eyes with Instructor Ophis. She glared at him like he had done something to her but he couldn't remember if he actually had. Mill shrugged and walked into the building leaving the angry Instuctor to watch as he entered. After seeing Mill enter Ophis walked away from the building.
"Let's see if you can make it through this, smartass." All of the applicants eventually made it into the dark interior of the testing site and were met with a dark, vacant room.
"It surprisingly quiet. I thought that there would at least be some sort of machines or that this was some kind of laboratory but this is just nothing." Karl was the first to speak up about his confusion and disappointment. He really wanted this place to be something special but it just didn't seem to step up to the plate.
"Maybe we misjudged this academy. Maybe the test isn't going to be hard because they want more students to attend?" Lua started to try her best to reason out why things were so lackluster. Though Mill was focused on something completely different.
"Have you guys noticed anything?" Mill turned to his comrades even in this darkness he could tell where they were based on their voices.
"Other than the dead quiet, no I haven't noticed anything." Darren answered as he was puzzled by his friends sudden question.
"That's right! It's quiet. Too quiet for a bunch of rowdy applicants that are teamed up with friends. I haven't even heard a footstep from any of the other groups nevermind a voice." The group stopped talking for a second and realized that Mill was right. It was way too quiet and it didn't even feel like they were in a big crowd anymore.
"This is really weird. It's like they all just suddenly disappeared. What the in all hell is going on?" Lua started to rack her brain as to why something like this would have happened when sudden crystals on the walls began to light up the room. Though a large metal room is not what they all saw when the lights came on.
"Hey, Mill. Can metal walls become stone?" Karl asked now that he could see again.
"Not without a certain ability, Karl." The once metal walls were now stacked bricks and seemed to be imbedded with crystals. Not long after the lights came on a voice penetrated everyone's heads.
"Hi hi. Hello? Can everyone hear me alright? Oh wait don't answer that you might overload my brain like the kids last year. Man I hate doing this." The voice sounded young and feminine but one couldn't tell without seeing them. "Anyway, I should probably do my job. Welcome applicants to the site of the Golden Lion Academy Entrance Exam. I am Sue Ophis and you can recognize me as younger sister of the Instructor that you met earlier."
"Now with the introduction out of the way I will now begin to explain the functionality of this test." The applicants were shocked as this person was moving very quickly, but they still listened intently. "Now if you have not realized yet you are all within a maze. The purpose of this exam is to see how well you kids can adapt to new situations and... and..." The voice went silent for a second.
"I can't remember the other purpose but work hard to adapt." Mill was very confused. How did someone like this end up with the job of instructing students on what it is that they need to do. 'Nevermind. I'm too tired to think about useless shit like this.'
"There should be a plethora of weapons to choose from in that starting area that you are all in so take your preference because there are tons of monsters roaming around in that maze. Honestly, some of you guys might die but that's the risk that come with being an adventurer so have fun with that." Mill was finding this person more and more unbelievable.
"I think that's all that they want me to tell you... Oh yeah! Any treasure that you find in the maze is yours to keep even after the test so have fun with that information and I hope to see you all on the other side." With that the voice cut off and once again the split up groups were standing in silence.
"She didn't even explain anything. Like why the groups got split up or if everyone is in the same maze. Even what types of monsters are in this maze would have been more useful than all she actually told us." Lua was upset and confused which led to her being even more upset.
"She told us what she told us so we'll just have to use what we were told and our own basic knowledge to get out of this. I'm assuming that even the whole thing about there being multiple test was a lie so once we get through this we'll be into the academy." Mill walked over to the weapons that were lined up against the wall and picked up a pair of daggers. "Now get a weapon so that we can get moving." Lua looked at Mill and had to admit that he was right. She moved to the wall and picked up a longsword and a bow. She turned to Mill and nodded to show that she was agreeing with him seeing this Mill turned to the room's exit.
"Now let's fight our way out of this stupid test so that I can go get some sleep."
