Bab 17: Let the village chief give me some guidance

Cutting Knife: Used for disassembling animal corpses, price: 1 gold coin. This is the lowest-priced item that Jake saw at Mason's general store. It surprised him that even the lowest-priced items required one gold coin. Jake had initially thought that his two gold coins were not insignificant, but he immediately realized that his two gold coins had no purchasing power here. He wasn't sure if his two gold coins were too few or if the prices of items here were too high.

But no matter which situation it was, one thing was certain: Mason was a swindler! Despite the variety of items in the general store, Jake had to leave with a gloomy expression on his face.

"If there's anything else good, feel free to sell it to me. I'll give you a fair price!" Mason called out loudly to Jake as he walked away.

Jake sneered and ignored him. Returning to the village chief's house, the old village chief was still reclining on his sun lounger, basking in the sun.

"I'm back, Village Chief," Jake said.

"Back already?" The old village chief opened his eyes slightly and looked at Jake. "Do you have money now?"

"Yes," Jake took out the two gold coins from his pocket and placed them in front of the village chief. The village chief glanced at the two gold coins in front of him and then at Jake, who had a serious expression. "Just this?"

Jake could sense the disdain in the village chief's words, and his face turned awkward. It seemed that two gold coins weren't enough. Thinking about it, two gold coins could only buy two cutting knives at the general store, which was clearly insufficient to lease the large piece of land on the mountainside.

"What did you sell to Mason? Did he only give you these two gold coins?" the old village chief asked.

"One fox corpse and one the colorful fierce tiger corpse," Jake honestly replied.

"What?" The old village chief stood up abruptly from his sun lounger, his eyes widened. "He only gave you two gold coins for those two corpses?"

"Yes," Jake nodded.

"Mason is quite the opportunist," the old village chief sighed. "Those two corpses of yours could easily sell for twenty gold coins, or even more. Especially the colorful fierce tiger corpse, it's worth a lot. You see, capturing a the colorful fierce tiger is not easy, and its entire body is valuable. If you take it to the city, just the tiger's corpse alone can sell for over fifty gold coins. That swindler!"

Upon hearing the words of the old village chief, Jake became infuriated. He couldn't believe that he had thought Mason was sincere, but he had clearly been deceived. Once again, Jake realized that this was not an ordinary game world; the people here had their own thoughts. In the future, he needed to be more cautious in dealing with them.

"In fact, you didn't have to sell both corpses to Mason," the old village chief advised Jake. "If you obtain any other beast or monster corpses, you can disassemble them and sell the meat to Nina, our village's top chef. If the teeth and claws are sharp enough, you can sell them to Glen, our village's blacksmith, for weapon crafting. And as for the fur, you can sell it to Coral, our village's tailor. She should be interested in those furs."

Jake stared blankly at the old village chief and said, "So, if I disassemble the corpses, I don't need to go to the general store at all? Each part of an animal's corpse could be sold to different people, rendering the general store unnecessary."

"Yes," the old village chief said matter-of-factly.

"Why didn't you say that earlier!" Jake gritted his teeth in frustration. If he had sold the corpses to someone else, maybe he wouldn't have been swindled and could have earned more money.

"I was just about to tell you, but you rushed off without giving me a chance to remind you," the old village chief said nonchalantly.

Jake was left speechless, realizing that he had been too hasty earlier. He knew the corpses could be sold for money but didn't wait to hear the rest of the village chief's advice. As a result, he was deceived.

"However, if you want to disassemble those animal corpses, you must know the skill of disassembly. Otherwise, you'll end up with torn and damaged fur and teeth that no one will want. Nina is the only one in our village who knows disassembly," the village chief reminded him.

Jake understood this point. As a beginner, if he didn't know the skill of disassembly, he would ruin the appearance of the corpses, making them unsellable.

"Village chief, how much does it cost to lease the land on the mountainside?" With a way to make money, Jake now had the confidence to inquire about the specific price.

"Five hundred gold coins a year!" the village chief said. "If you give me five hundred gold coins, you can lease all the land on the mountainside and plant whatever you want."

"Five hundred gold coins? That's a lot!" Jake exclaimed. He realized that not every monster he killed would leave a corpse. It wouldn't be easy to earn that much money. How long would it take to gather that amount?

"That's still cheap! If it weren't for you being an old acquaintance, I wouldn't lease it for less than five thousand gold coins!" The village chief put on a serious expression. "Do you know how large the entire mountainside land is? You can not only plant vegetables and fruits there but also raise fish and livestock."

The village chief's words made Jake even more excited. If he could raise livestock, he could solve the problem of meat for his barbecue in reality. It was a great opportunity.

Without much hesitation, Jake made up his mind to lease the entire mountainside land. After some persuasion, he finally convinced the village chief to allow him to start cultivating the land with the condition of completing the payment within a month.

Satisfied with the village chief's agreement, Jake left contentedly and prepared to visit Nina to learn the skill of disassembly.

As the village chief saw Jake leave, a satisfied smile appeared on his face. "The mountainside has been neglected for many years, with frequent appearances of wild beasts and monsters. No one wanted to develop and cultivate it, and it has been left idle for a long time. Unexpectedly, I can lease it out now, and earn five hundred gold coins a year. I'm truly a competent village chief, haha."

Jake was oblivious to the village chief's satisfaction. However, he had a genuine need for the mountainside land, so even if he knew, he probably wouldn't have cared. All Jake wanted now was to make money quickly, cultivate the land as soon as possible, and use the resources in the area to change his real-life situation. Learning the skill of disassembly was crucial for his money-making plans.
