"You've been dead for 20 years and you still want to teach me?" Standing within the projection of the new element, Tony Stark laughed.
He didn't know if he was laughing at himself for discovering the solution to palladium poisoning or laughing at the cross-temporal communication with his father.
"The new element you discovered should be able to replace the palladium you're currently using." Jarvis' voice echoed.
"Thanks, old man." Tony Stark reduced the size of the element projection, holding it between his fingers, carefully examining it.
"Unfortunately, it can't be synthesized."
"Hmm~" Tony Stark laughed again and then stood up. "Get ready for a big renovation, guys. It's time to break a sweat."
Tony Stark then took a hammer and began banging it, creating holes in the walls and floors.
"Stark, your house is probably the most high-risk residence in this world." Clint Barton looked at the room that Tony Stark had riddled with holes in an instant and couldn't help but say, "What are you up to now?"
"It's obvious, I'm going to synthesize a new element." Tony Stark said.
"How are you going to do that?" Phil Coulson couldn't help but ask. He couldn't imagine how to even approach the grand task of synthesizing a new element.
"Isn't it simple?" Tony Stark shrugged and pointed at the video. "Open your eyes wide and watch closely. Learn a thing or two from me."
In the video, Tony Stark assembled some sophisticated-looking components one by one in their respective positions, and a massive particle accelerator appeared before everyone.
"I heard you've been away." At this moment, the door opened, and Phil Coulson's figure appeared.
"Yes." Tony Stark said, "That's ancient history. Where have you been?"
"I had things to take care of." Phil Coulson said.
"Is that so?" Tony Stark continued tinkering with the particle accelerator while saying, "So do I, and I'm close to succeeding."
At that moment, Phil Coulson, who had been wandering around, noticed an unfinished shield. Tony Stark asked him to place the shield under a pipe.
"I'm busy. What are you here for?" Tony Stark asked while using a level to make adjustments.
"Just saying goodbye." Phil Coulson said, "I've been reassigned. I'm going to New Mexico."
"A charming paradise." Tony Stark gave a four-word evaluation.
"Everyone says that." Phil Coulson said.
"A secret mission?" Tony Stark guessed.
"Close enough." Phil Coulson didn't say much.
"Good luck." Tony Stark's farewell seemed casual.
"Goodbye." Phil Coulson's farewell also seemed insincere.
The video ended there.
"New Mexico?" But this final location caught the attention of the people in the answer space because it was where the Thunder God descended.
"So, in the video, I went to find Thor?" Phil Coulson sounded uncertain but spoke with conviction.
"Didn't you say this was a video from the future?" Thor said, "But my appearance is before the video."
"The video shows an unchanged future." Tony Stark pondered. "It depicts events that didn't occur in the answer space."
"Does that mean that if there were no answer space, Thor wouldn't have arrived on Earth at this time?" Clint Barton said.
"No, Thor's arrival on Earth is fixed in the timeline and is not affected by the answer space." Tony Stark said. "The answer space changes us. If there were no answer space, I would have invented the new element like in the video, with Nick Fury's reminder and using what my father left me. But because of the answer space, Nick Fury's attention is not on me. He is more concerned about Thor and Captain America. At the time he should have reminded me, he didn't."
"So, this is still a video from the past." Phil Coulson summarized it.
"Yes, it's the past, but also the future at the same time." Tony Stark said.
"Stark, can you stop speaking in riddles?" Clint Barton said.
"That's right, according to the chronological order, Thor has already arrived on Earth. For us now, this is a video from the past." Tony Stark glanced at Clint Barton and explained, "But because of the appearance of the answer space, some parts of the past that were supposed to happen didn't happen. They became a future that hasn't happened yet."
"The part of Thor's past has already happened because Thor wasn't affected by the answer space." Phil Coulson continued, "And you, Stark, the past where you were supposed to solve the palladium poisoning under Director Fury's reminder, didn't happen. It became your future."
"You're going around in circles, and I don't quite understand," Thor interjected, "Is it meaningful to discuss this?"
"It is." Tony Stark said, "At the very least, this video confirms one thing: the future depicted in the video is based on the assumption that the answer space never appeared."
"Isn't that obvious?" Thor retorted.
"It's quite obvious, but this is about the future, and we need confirmation, don't we?" Tony Stark paused and said, "And thank you for your analysis of this question."
"That was just a lucky guess." Thor felt a bit embarrassed. "Yes, you did solve the palladium poisoning with your father's help, but not in the way I mentioned."
"No, I want to thank you because you provided me with a perspective, a way for me to see my father again." Tony Stark sighed, his eyes slightly reddening. "Do you know? On the day my father had the accident, we had an argument. I didn't even say goodbye to him! I never told him that I loved him. For all these years, I've been thinking, if I had the chance to say goodbye to him, if I could tell him 'I love you' in person, I would give up everything."
"Stark, are you really planning to seek a magician to communicate with the spirit of your father?" Phil Coulson frowned. "That doesn't sound like the right thing to do."
"I'm not sure if there are spirits of the dead in this world." Clint Barton also chimed in, trying to persuade him. "There's a clear distinction between life and death, Stark. If there are truly spirits, they wouldn't manifest themselves before us humans for a reason. I think it's best if we don't cross that barrier."
